1. What

I'm afraid of...

Send him to a hospital for the criminally insane!

3. If he thinks an insanity defense would help him

He's getting bad advice, because conditions in many hospitals used to house the criminally insane are worse than an actual prison.

His better option would be to face the music and hope his trial is assigned to one of his sympathetic "judges".

2. The insanity defense rarely works.

You have to be either unable to control your behavior (you didn't know what you were doing), or you don't realize your act was wrong or unlawful. TFG knew damn well what he was doing, and he didn't care whether it was wrong or illegal. TFG is mentally messed up - he's a psychopath and a narcissist - but he's not psychotic.

4. I agree with this assessment.

He is a ruthless psychopath, paranoid and narcissist.

But not floridly psychotic to the point of NGRI.

5. Even if he could, he won't

He would never accept it.

6. When the end of the road comes nearer I can see him asserting an insanity defense and

then negotiating to spend the rest of his life at Mar-a-Lardo. His SS detail and presidential pension won't be stripped from him. All he'd need is a full time nursing staff. And, when climate change damages/destroys his Mar-a-Lardo he'll get gov't money for repairs. Even if he is ordered to have no phone or internet access and never to leave Mar-a-Lardo and is stripped of his Trump investments he will live a comfortable life having done what he does best --- screw everyone who has ever worked for him.

10. None of it will play out like that

Will be more like Howard Hughes, would be my guess.

8. Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a mental condition.

He actually could try to make a case based on that diagnosis.

Does it mean he's "Mentally Ill" or "Insane"? Doubtful. He still knows right from wrong.

12. I think he knows cognitively what's wrong, but believes he's above the law.

He thinks morals are for sissies. That's why the church bible thumpers adore him.

9. That's what I have been thinking

There is no other excuse. And it is a bullshit excuse as well.

13. OK - he's insane. I can accept that ...

Are his loyal followers insane too? All the ChumpHumpers in Congress? The idiots who participated the Insurrection/Big Lie? Because they ALL KNEW they were doing the bidding of an insane person, and they all did it anyway.

We'll need to lock up almost 70 million people. How do we do that?
