An unpopular opinion
If you think that all Republicans are MAGAts, you just might be as delusional as the MAGAts who are telling that tale. Not all Republican voters are MAGAts who support Trump.
If you think that there are NO Republican voters paying attention to the Jan-6 Committee hearings, you just be as delusional as the FOX-News people who insist this is the case. If you believe that Trump will run in 2024 and win, you just might be as delusional as his ever-dwindling base who think they have enough votes to elect him in 2024 when they didn't have enough votes to re-elect him in 2020. If you believe that the PTB in the GOP are going to back a known loser in the next election, you might be as delusional as those who think supporting a candidate who tried to overthrow democracy is a sure winner next time around. It's time to STOP being delusional - and start being realistic. It's time to STOP promoting GOP lies. It's time to STOP pretending that MAGAts represent a majority of voters when they clearly don't - and I am tired of so-called Democrats promoting the idea that they do. Not a popular opinion - but my opinion nonetheless.

1. I agree with this but,,,,,
how do you get them to admit it. They still listen to rightwing whack jobs and vote for them too just because they are on the republican ticket.

but wonder if TFG will decide not to run or if someone will have the courage to primary him.
I think they're hoping he will die and save them from themselves. |

11. DeSantis is running whether Trump runs or not
He hasn’t been picking fights with Disney to help boost the Florida economy. That he has not committed to saying he won’t run if Trump decides to run speaks volumes.

vote for TFG before they would vote for a Democrat.

10. You make some good points. However ...
... I do think if he runs, the party apparatus will back him 100%. But that's how I feel today. It may change based on the investigations. He MIGHT be too damaged to run by then. We can hope. But unfortunately his brand of politics is currently winning primaries. Whether they win in the midterms is another question but so far he is not damaged goods. Yet.
I agree with you that there are a lot of republicans who want their party back and who would flock to a "normal" candidate in a heartbeat. They outnumber the deplorables by a mile. It's just that they are not in-your-face like the deplorables are. The FBI estimates that "only" 2000 people attacked the capitol on Jan. 6. That is a tiny fraction of Rs. But they yell and scream and seem a lot more numerous because they're the ones making all the noise and the headlines. If a "normal" candidate runs, be prepared to lose people like Nicolle Wallace and the like. They are still republicans and they'll abandon the Dem narrative in a heartbeat as soon as the GOP puts forth someone more pedestrian. |

15. I only watch Nicolle, Chris Hayes, and Rachel,
Nicolle Wallace does as good a job as Rachel, if not better. She will never vote for a Magat, will not vote for a Trump clone, attacking her is akin to attacking our democracy, she is standing up for our democracy.
No one has gone after Donald Trump more so than Liz Cheney. Former Republicans have been the loudest voices going after the Magats, some Democrats need to take a cue from them. |

13. According to Politifact 70% of Republican voters
believe that Trump won the election. With that said, the majority of the remaining 30% will still vote Republican.
The #1 goal of the select committee is to convince Merrick Garland to indict Donald Trump, swaying a couple of Republican/Magat voters is secondary. I live among them, they absolutely vote against Democrats, they do not vote for Republicans. Whatever Republican evils the committee throws out there the Magats will always believe that Democrats are worse. |

14. Trumpism is a social disease. It surprises many just how virulent and enduring it is.
Most Germans weren't Nazis but when the Nazis took power circumspect Germans remained silent about the horrors they ever-more-clearly knew were coming. They were silent accomplices who had waited too long until they had no other choice but to survive their ride on the whirlwind.
So, here's a viable equation: at any given time, circumspect citizens plus *Trumpist citizens equal 49-51% of citizens. If it requires fear and panic to remain vigilant when the wolves of fascism are at the door, then I embrace fear and panic. In Pamplona there are two elements, those who run with the bulls and those who do not. The elements, when united, are the bull's horns. Some will dare to deny vigilance, even waving their red flags, flaunting their sense of invulnerability. Some poets call it life when others call it foolishness. *Trump isn't the only American fascist who derides institutional democratic freedom |

17. I have bee taking a look at some 2024 polling and most of it has the Orange Anus leading both Biden,
or Harrris.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-general/2024/national/ From what I can tell from my limited peeks on social media republicans including some people that I . knew like former classmates and friends that I haven't seen physically in as much as 4 decades are really anti-Biden and they reject any effort to accept reality and would vote for tRump if he runs. So I really hope that your optimistism and opinions are correct. But I do not share your optomism. |

19. I golf with an 89 year old Magat,
he told me the last Democrat he voted for was JFK, this has nothing to do with Trump. My Magat buddy used to ride a Harley so 2 days ago I asked him if he was going to vote for the Muslim guy who lives in N.J. or vote for the Harley riding Fetterman and without hesitation he replied, I'm not voting for Fetterman. I asked why not, and he replied, because he is a Democrat. He never said he was voting "for" Oz, he said he was voting against the Democrat.

24. The Tipping Point
By Malcolm Gladwell is about how massive swings in belief take place.
That is what is going to happen after the hearings and ensuing indictments. Many, if not most points about how republicans view trump are out of date now and will be even more out of date as we move toward the elections. You can quote all the surveys and opinion polls you want, but they are not relevant to this argument because we do not know how public opinion will shake out. The same goes for the personal stories above. While interesting to read, 89 year old motorcycling voters are only anecdotal evidence. Therefore few of the arguments above sway me from the OP’s point about delusion. |

And some will vote for a Democrat, if Trump is the official nominee.
NanceGreggs, your opinion is totally correct. Some are much too smart to vote for Trump. Why, you ask?................................................ It is simple: Some know that voting for Trump is totally wrong, Trump is..... ............"True threat to our country"..................................................... Yes, there are some that are that smart, and that caring about our country!! ..................And, ...........Thank You for your post |

27. Totally agree with your opinion. We primarily
see and hear the loud and less intelligent magats the media seems to gravitate to. There are many conservative voters who put the preservation of a democratic US before any one person, especially a disgraced crime overlord better suited for the 1930s mob enforcers structure. Suspect they also know this one is much dumber, but more manipulative and hungry for power.
