Barring any major bombshells or revelations, the notion that Biden should relegate himself to one term doesn't make much sense on paper.Although his opponents like to paint him as a total failure, Biden's legislative accomplishments stack up well compared to other presidents at this stage in their first terms.
The American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are two major initiatives that passed despite intense polarization and the Democrats' narrow majorities in Congress. And both pieces of legislation have been integral to the nation's recovery from the pandemic. The Biden administration also oversaw the swift rollout of the Covid-19 vaccines, which have been key to protecting the country against the damage caused by new variants.
On foreign policy, Biden has enjoyed considerable success strengthening NATO and ratcheting up economic sanctions against Russia while providing critical aid to Ukraine. As New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote about his off-the-record lunch with the President, "What I felt afterward was this: For all you knuckleheads on Fox who say that Biden can't put two sentences together, here's a news flash: He just put NATO together, Europe together and the whole Western alliance togetherstretching from Canada up to Finland and all the way to Japanto help Ukraine protect its fledgling democracy from Vladimir Putin's fascist assault."

Nor is it clear that there is another Democrat who would be in a better position come 2024. None of the major Democratic candidates in 2020 proved capable of mounting an appealing and formidable campaign. And some of those candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris, are now weighed down by new questions about their viability and do not appear to be strong candidates against Trump in the current economic and political environment.

(22,270 posts)remaining constantly in the media after leaving office. Ever.
Proper presidents go quietly into private life, and the good ones establish foundations and use their powers for good.
I am so sick of his ugly face, his whiney voice, his stand-up comic(?) routine, his crass insensitivity and most especially his ability to keep his followers whipped into a frenzy on a continual basis.
I wonder what would happen if everything he says or does is not even mentioned, except for the Jan 6 committee and potential lawsuits. I would consider it a relief.
Because of the Schwab Challenge PGA tournament the week of Memorial Day and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition here in Fort Worth, I have had a welcome break from everything.

(46,758 posts)Man has done more for minorities, including Obama, in my opinion. And he's beginning to gird his loins to fight the asshole Republicans who are trying to obstruct him in Congress, as well as ready to tackle the corporate gougers who are intentionally causing financial sorrow in this country, specifically to make Biden's Administration less palpable to the voter.

There were isolationists who looked the other way when Hitler committed genocide, and look how that turned out.

Inflation? The ignorant Republican trade war they stampeded into because Trump has them by the short hairs caused that. Trump's switching the Republican Party to supporting Putin also did.

(16,126 posts)at this point, he's been hampered by every last republican and two stubborn Democrats.
If we can manage to give him a real senate majority and hold the house, a whole lot can be done and he seems willing to do it.

(33,561 posts)I admire both men, but at this point in history, the American genius for producing a great Presidency after a disastrous one is before us.
President Biden has the right mix of experience and decency to fix what ails us, as we face the most divisive point in our history since 1860. Hopefully it doesn't get as bad as 1860, but if it does, there's no one of whom I can think who would be better than Joe Biden.

(10,839 posts)Biden is too old, Biden should bow out in 2024, Dems are whispering about replacing Biden on the ticket, yada, yada, yada.
Hummmm. Who or what do these murmurs and whispers help? Did Democrats take the midterm advantage when they distanced themselves from President Obama and the ACA?
Because the noise and chatter is floating around doesn't make it wise advice. It's why I applaud Stacey Abrams who has welcomed President Biden with a full-throated Come on Down to campaign with her.
Time to play it smart and brave and stubbornly resolute.
We are the Pro-Democracy Party, Trumpsters. Deal with it!

(1,697 posts)And I wouldn't expect it even in 2024. If Biden wants ro run, he'll run. If not, we have a deep bench. Either way, I don't get why we're constantly seeing articles about this in 2022. And 2021. And even 2020.
And this is from a die-hard Bernie supporter, btw.

(6,569 posts)a breath of fresh air. Except for constantly hearing about and from the Orange Turd and his ilk, I have never felt safer. I don't agree with absolutely everything he does, but no one should expect 100% agreement with another human being. Even when you're married, you fight occasionally.
I trust Biden's motives, his expertise in political matters, and the fact that he can consult with others that are also smart, sane, and motivated for the good of the country is icing on the cake. I would vote for Secretary Pete, when and if he comes along, but in 2024, I expect to be casting my vote for President Biden. If not Biden, because he chooses, and he alone, to hand the baton over, then I will vote for Harris.
But, I have to add here, I would vote for anyone but a Repub or Libertarian. That's what they have done to me, polarized me completely against the fascist party and all that it stands for.
lees1975
(3,879 posts)hopelessly a biased Republican, he's achieved more in less than two years than both Bushes and Trump were able to tear down and destroy in their time in office.
And Harris has been Vice-President, for goodness sake, how can you evaluate her "job performance" for doing a job that is essentially keeping an eye on the senate for breaking tie votes and sitting around waiting for a call.
If you want to watch the effects of cognitive impairment, take a look at a video of a Trump rally if you can stand the rhetoric and the lies. He can't put two sentences together, loses his train of thought, rambles on and can't make a point. He slurs words, grasps for words and has a fifteen word vocabulary.

(5,851 posts)They make and break presidencies. If they would have honestly reported on the orange motherfucker's awfulness instead of going "Ooooo, shiny!" every time he opened his piehole, we wouldn't be in this mess. If they EVER talked about Biden's accomplishments, he'd be guaranteed a second term. If they honestly talked about inflation - that it is a WORLDWIDE problem, not limited to the U.S. - he wouldn't be getting all the blame.
Grrrrrrr.
