Perhaps the most significant case before SCOTUS for which a decision has not been issued is the West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency case where, according to SCOTUSblog.com:
Whether, in 42 U.S.C. § 7411(d), an ancillary provision of the Clean Air Act, Congress constitutionally authorized the Environmental Protection Agency to issue significant rules including those capable of reshaping the nations electricity grids and unilaterally decarbonizing virtually any sector of the economy without any limits on what the agency can require so long as it considers cost, nonair impacts and energy requirements.
There have been predictions that SCOTUS will gut pretty much all of the executive branch's authority via its various departments to regulate and oversee all sorts of matters and issues in this country.
Of course, the court could issue a very narrow ruling on the specifics of the case. I don't think anyone believes the court will rule in favor of the EPA.
Given how the most far-reaching cases are usually issued last and we already have had absolutely horrible decisions in the New York gun case and in the Dobbs case, there are some dark clouds on the horizon for this case.

(4,425 posts)2. A corrupt SCOTUS.
I expect a 6-3 or 5-4 decision gutting the EPA and probably much more. It will have nothing to do with the law. These justices are part of the right wing takeover of the country, part 2.
