Fighting gas prices? Your turn.

When the Double Nickel (55 max speed M.P.H.) was introduced, I thought it was bullshit but ok.

I have a hybrid which display the M.P.G. on the side screen.... had the car for two years. I do mostly highway driving, 78 M.P.H. and the car's average has been 47 m.p.g.

Two weeks ago, I began a new routine, not driving over 65 and mostly in the 50's when there are no other cars on the highway and on the right hand lane. 65 if there are other cars on the road. No particular reason I started driving slower but I did find it more relaxing.

MPG now averages 53 m.p.g.

1. I would rather cut back on trips than drive 55 mph and get rear-ended on the interstate. I don't go

out for coffee in the morning, two benefits I save gas and don't have to listen to the MAGAts run their mouths.
I have two vehicles an SUV that gets 30mpg and a truck that gets 18mpg. I have put less than 800 miles on the truck
in the last 6 months. I combine trips and shop local in Ohio or WV rather than driving to the big shopping areas
35 miles away in Pennsylvania. I figure I have saved about 30% on driving.

under the speed limit on divided highways. On two lane roads I drive the posted speed limit. I did.it to improve my gas mileage. Many of the vehicles that pass me I catch up with them.down the road.

Cracks me up people flooring it when light turns green then slamming on brakes at next light. I coast right in behind them.

If you see you are coming up on a red light, take your foot off the gass and coast up to it. Take your foot off the gas a few times going down hill, etc. On my car it has a "mpg" meter and I try to keep it above 25 mpg most of the time. Starting from a stop and accelerating used the most gas. That's one of the reasons hybrids do well is that they use the electric motor to start from stop.
Ok done with unrequested mansplaining.

45 mph limit to work rather than the 65 mph highway. Miles are same, time is longer, mpg is higher. 45 minutes vs 30 minutes, 50 mpg vs 38.

9. Air pressure

I increases my air pressure 2 pounds over the stated pressure on the drivers door panel in each tire (I don't recommend anything higher than that)

During my oil change I had them replace the air cleaner.

I took my 2020 outlander sport SUV from 28 mpg average to 29.5 mpg.
