I realize there are no exclusively Blue or Red States but I have literally and I know what literally means nothing in common with somebody from Alabama or Mississippi. That being said I have a lot more in common with your nominal Brit or Canadian. Where do we go from here? The Red States want more than to govern themselves. They want to take the whole nation back to 1950.

Then on Sunday they all shuffle off to church to become more devout disciples of Jesus' teachings to love they neighbor - except if they happen to be dark complected - then fuck that shit.

(1,182 posts)Both so-called "red" and "blue" states suffer from a LACK of adequate representation.
Take Wyoming, for example. Two Senators and ONE Representative, for over 500,000 people. It's absurd. That single House Representative actually exercises more power than those TWO Senators. Thus, easy for some rich asshole in that State to control them.
If we followed the "original" Constitution, they'd have NINETEEN Representatives. Odds would increase there would be more "blue" Representatives from Wyoming.
The converse, of course, is true in larger populated States, such as California. Their Representatives are much weakened overall, despite their greater numbers.
Both "sides" of the "red state" / "blue state" divide are UNDERREPRESENTED. The spectrum between conservative and liberal has been compressed BY DESIGN, weakening the power of the House and increasing the power of the Senate, skewing power AWAY from the PEOPLE and toward the most wealthy and powerful in this nation.
Restore the "original" Constitution regarding the House of Representatives, and we'd have over 5,000 House Members, and MUCH more diversity and opportunity for coalitions to pass legislation.
We gloss over the whole "separation of powers" design in thinking that there are only three power centers. But there are actually FOUR. And one has been considerably weakened.. BY DESIGN. Greedy assholes in the House passed legislation a long time ago to increase how many they "represent", thinking it increased their individual power, but not understanding that, actually, their strength was in numbers. The fucking House got bought off, decades ago.
