"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
That's Genesis, 2: 7. You know, in the book that is the final authority on everything.
Electricity in fetal heart tissue, volume of fetal brain tissue, etc.----all the meaningless stuff that will follow "Yeah, but---" is unmentioned in "the Book". There is no "life"---no "living soul"---until there is breath. Fetal "personhood" is a Christian creation, not a scientific fact.
Don't let them get past Genesis.

(12,904 posts)I love your posts. And I totally get your point. I just happened to read your post after seeing several stories explaining the evangelical position on the issue.
I am just so sick of those people. Some of them are using Jesus as a weapon. That seems completely contrary to anything Ive ever been taught about Jesus.

(8,387 posts)In your apparently regular dealings with Evangelicals, how many times have you convinced them that you know more about the Bible than the people they actually listen to on that subject?

Of course, most of these Bible-thumpers will never change, but some of the younger ones are starting to ask why "Christians" apparently don't practice all those Biblical teachings.
My OP may be one more thing they'll ask about.

(8,387 posts)Quoting the Bible to these people, if you are not part of their cult, is pointless.

(845 posts)I was very fortunate to be in the delivery room when my granddaughter was born. I had had c-sections with my kids so didnt get to witness their first breath. Let me tell you when my granddaughter drew that first breath and I saw it first hand. I literally saw her soul enter her body. It was the most spiritual thing Ive ever witnessed. Some may not believe me but I will believe it for the rest of my life. Shes twenty years old now and beautiful of course I am her granny. Some folks say life begins at conception but I know better.

You don't have to donate blood or kidneys or anything. Not even dead people can have their organs harvested without prior approval. Make no mistake, pregnancy is a sacrifice, whether it turns out well or kills the mother or all the possibilities in between.
We really should start making it about what it is: A woman's autonomy. The rest is just noise.
