An abortion discussion with my aunt

My aunt is 84, a retired nurse, and very right-wing. I stopped following her on Facebook years ago when I couldn’t bear reading her pro-Trump posts. Last week I posted how sad I was about Roe and how my daughter now has fewer rights than I did at her age. She messaged me with a video (I didn’t watch) showing a fetus being cut up during an abortion, and said “everything has 2 sides, this is reality”. I replied that we would never change each other’s minds, that I agreed with the large majority of Americans that abortions should be allowed in some or most cases. She replied that she doesn’t believe those polls because the media is controlled by the left. Surprisingly she said in her nurses training that abortion was allowed for the life of the mother or extreme issues with the baby. She said that was a valid reason, not just some whim (which must be how she sees most abortions). She didn’t respond to my comment about how hypocritical Republicans are when they want no government interference but are happy to interfere in terminating a pregnancy. Sigh.

are so vague in their wording as to be practically worthless. Doctors in these states won’t risk being criminally prosecuted to perform an abortion until it’s too late or not at all.

So those lawmakers get to pretend that they're sensible without having to actually be so.

3. Aunt led a sheltered life

Surprised an older woman doesn't know or care about the countless women killed or maimed forever by illegal abortions before Roe. Abortions won't stop, ever. Corrupt SCOTUS ruling endangers, controls and criminalizes women. And abortions will happen later in pregnancies now. But assault rifles for 18 year olds--A-OK.
