We were too generous with our tolerance

Yeah. We. The majority.

We believed that everyone was allowed to live by their own beliefs, as long as they didn't harm others.

We believed that "live and let live" was a reasonable guide by which to conduct ourselves.

We believed that humanity had learned the futility of madness from the wars of the 20th Century.

We actually believed that we had evolved beyond a world of madness.

Jeeez. How fucking wrong could we have been?

There are millions who don't believe as we do. There are millions who hunger for wealth and absolute power. There are millions driven by despising "The Other." There are millions who we ignore, yet who are our deadly enemies. There are millions who can bring modern civilization crashing down. And they can bring about this collapse while we stand by and watch, doing little to nothing. As a matter of fact, they're well along the road toward establishing the world they want and the one we despise.

Yes. I'm talking about today's America. I'm talking about those of us who have played by the rules that our enemies ignored. I'm talking about our own ignorance in ignoring the grave danger they presented to our achievements and advancements. I'm talking about those who can easily be led by those who offer them nothing but hatred and the illusion of superiority.

Seems we've been dumber than shit. Seems we thought our own belief in progress blinded us to the threat they presented. Seems we really underestimated them. Seems we were too generous with our tolerance. Seems we should have stopped them long ago. Seems it may be too late. And it seems we have one final moment to get our asses in gear and do whatever we possibly can do to halt their progress and crush their ideology.

isn't to become like them.

Populism is toxic and antithetical to reason. Liberalism rests on reason.

We need to get motivated and to use our collective energies to counter the Court's move in ways that are consistent with our values.

No suggestions? Nothing but that one line? Let me say this. Sigh!

We need to get busy and use of minds and energies to GOTV and to help support women and abortion services in ways that are in line with our values.

Adopting populist intolerance--in the mode of the radical right--would be our very worst course IMO.

I'm *sighing* myself.
