Police arrest New York man accused of slapping Rudy Giuliani on back

Employee Daniel Gill, 38, apparently asked Giuliani, 78, ‘What’s up, scumbag?’ during incident in ShopRite store on Staten Island

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jun/27/rudy-giuliani-slap-grocery-store-new-york-staten-island?CMP=fb_gu&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR3VuF5avxskRGfCuZF2_puMJByQuPgr8WKexmmDoW0bjMgtFUIcGZskWr8#Echobox=1656346055

A 38-year-old Staten Island store employee was arrested for allegedly hitting Rudy Giuliani on the back, an attack that the former New York City mayor says felt as if he had been “shot”.

A surveillance video showed Giuliani standing inside a ShopRite store with a group of people he later identified as his supporters. As he was standing, 38-year-old Daniel Gill walked up from behind Giuliani, slapped his back and continued to walk, the video showed.

The video, obtained and published by the New York Post, also showed Gill saying something to Giuliani as Gill walked past the group standing with the 78-year-old, who has also previously served as a lawyer to Donald Trump.

Gill asked Giuliani, “What’s up, scumbag?”, according to a statement from the New York police department. As the group of onlookers watched, the woman next to Giuliani immediately began patting his back as if to soothe him.

The dude was just calling 'em as he sees 'em.

I don’t think an infant would react if tapped that lightly. It was not enough force to cause a bruise or any pain.

The woman who put her hands all over Rudy's back to "comfort" him touched him more than the dude passing by who barely patted him on the back.

Should he have touched him? No.

But let's not fucking start claiming elder abuse.

Not that he'll ever get charged with filing a false complaint, characterizing a pat on the back as a two-way assassination attempt.

Based on what he said later, the snowflake martyr has himself shot and fallen over with a cracked skull due to a pat on the back. Video evidence makes it clear he was never remotely off balance. Well, physically, anyway.

I hope he lies like that on an official form and gets what he deserves.

Giuliani probably spends his time looking for his next scam.

Hopefully, he won't ultimately be charged. The video makes Giuliani's claims look a little silly.

He's fortunate the old creep didn't "choose" that moment to fall and break his hip. The law says "you take your victim as you find him," that a victim shouldn't have been off balance or easily startled and wasn't known to be fragile no excuse.

He should not have done it. You shouldn't touch strangers and certainly employees shouldn't touch customers.

But having him arrested and going on air to pretend it was an assassination attempt is preposterous and a massive abuse of power.

Keep your hands to yourself.

I didn't like it when a reporter's buttocks were slapped, and I don't think you should ever put your hands on a stranger except for self defense.
