everyone having dignified access to whatever medical care they need. Reproductive care included. No man needs my permission for a vasectomy or condoms. Nobody needs my permission to put embryos in a freezer for later. You don't need my permission for a heart bypass or knee replacement or even to lance the boil on your butt. If you want to cap your teeth, make your boobs bigger or smaller, take a pill for a worn out penis, or have your face pulled so tight your ears touch behind your head. Not my business.
I don't care. I don't want to know. It - isn't - my - business.
We don't need to save Roe. We need to make all forms of reproductive care classified as medical care. Whether or not insurance covers it is no different than anything else. That's another battle to be fought and yes we do also need affordable access to basic medical care.

(25,858 posts)Saying you don't care implies a profound indifference. I don't care about how most professional sports teams do. I am profoundly indifferent to them. I do care about access to abortion because even though I'm 73 and long past the time I might need one, I'm well aware of the implications of zero abortion access.

(6,679 posts)I care about abortion the same way I care about anyone getting any medical care they need. Abortion saved my life twice. It's very important to me that it be an option. But pushing it off in a corner by itself is not the right way. Abortion is medical care. I care about medical care.

(25,858 posts)No misunderstanding. If you'd simply said you care about medical care, I'd be okay, but you said you do not care about Roe or abortion, so I'm going with what you said. Words matter.

This is absurd. In the case of, say, an ectopic pregnancy, there are medical decisions to be made and these are not at all trivial. Interference by lawyers and religionists just wastes time. And often lives.
There is a place for medical ethicists as there are difficult questions as we get better at the science, and art, of healing. And there's always a Mengele to watch out for. But, having religion decide specific courses of action brings us back to the Dark Ages.
