(3,627 posts)I've been birdwatching there. They have a rich mix of microclimates, including some flat beaches and swamps, but also mountains several thousand feet high. While T&T are culturally "Caribbean," they are geologically part of South America -- which is also why they have oil and a much more self-sufficient economy than other Caribbean islands.

(3,627 posts)Too bad the whole island felt like a revolution waiting to happen, something none of the other people on our nature tour seemed to get.

(34,111 posts)but have spent a bit of time in Bonaire and Curacao diving. IIRC Bonaire is very flat. Where I was in Curacao I cannot remember, we never had time to travel around the island, we spent it all underwater except for a day in Willemstad.
I always hate seeing big storms in the beautiful places that make up most of my happiest trips ever.

(269,033 posts)The good news this should remain a TS and may be a weak hurricane in the Caribbean Sea before it reaches Central America,
Hope it doesnt affect the Concacaf U20 qualifiers in Honduras.

(34,111 posts)Honduras. The island we always stayed on was Guanaja but there is nothing left of what we loved there after their big hurricane. Totally gone and apparently the reefs that we were so happy to dabble around in are gone as well. It breaks my heart. I imagine there was nothing left of Bonacca Town.

Just remove any inconvenience and to hell with science or details. Then attack the experts.

(1,576 posts)The leeward side of the island has average wave height of about 1 foot. On occasion there would be a day when the winds would shift and the lee side would get battered. This photo was from one of those day My neighbor's dog decided it was a good day to sit on the beach and get wet. The buildings in the back ground are some of the hotels about 5 miles south.
