Responding to the 2021 Capitol attack
On January 6, 2021, for more than an hour during the violent storming of the Capitol that resulted in physical and symbolic harm to the Congress, the Capitol, and the process of accepting and counting the votes of the Electoral College, Stenger and House Sergeant arms Paul Irving (members of the Capitol Review Board) repeatedly refused to request the assistance of the National Guard. He then resigned as the Senate sergeant-at-arms. The two other top Capitol security officialsHouse sergeant-at-arms Paul D. Irving and United States Capitol Police chief Steven Sundalso resigned the same day, amid bipartisan shock and outrage over security lapses that led to the mob's breach and occupation of the Capitol.

(8,332 posts)Captain of Marines, Secret Service Agent who rose through the ranks to Secret Service Leadership, Senior Security Aid to the US Senate who rose to become the Senate Sergeant at Arms. He was there in a leadership roll on a very fucked up day and that career will probably be remembered more for that than anything else. I understand why that is, but lets let him and his family grieve in peace without the bullshit.
