"One thing you can ALWAYS count on Republicans/Conservatives for is overreach."

Every single time. They can't help themselves. It is in their ideology.

My wife and I were having this discussion and I said, "Both Democrats and Republicans can overreach at times, but there are MAJOR differences".

Democrats tend to overreach at times in a "protective" manner. An example of this is when they put new taxes on "sugary beverages" or try to ban sodas over 32oz. We get called "Nanny state" etc... but the intent is to reduce negative health outcomes.

Republicans overreach to punish non-rich and non-White people, and women OR they overreach to transfer money to the wealthy. They NEVER even consider making any policies which do not directly benefit the wealthiest people. They will occasionally introduce legislation to "expand religious freedom" which basically means laws which try to advantage Christians, but other than that, most Conservative/Republican policy is punitive to the average person.
