From my limited knowledge of fundamentalist Abrahamic religions (Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and millions of offshoots), one group - usually senior patriarchs, can control anybody else - especially the lower ones (women, non-cultists.)

The not nice thing about burkas and other coverings is that they hide signs of physical abuse.

Of course the controlling men are free to travel to "hot" spots to satisfy their particular sins.

Women kept their distance here and there.
The men were wild and expected something if you were friendly. They often mistook politeness for something else.

The Iranian Revolution wasn't about sex. It was about FU to the Western World.

Ever watch a swarm of gnats in the summer? Most of them are males swarming a poor female.

Of course the females have a lot of tricks too. Eating their mate(s) after copulation (yes multiple mates).

While we might think we are above the fray, our primal impulses are usually much stronger than our mindful ones.

The best thing that happened to me as an old man was ---- getting old.

…was a nurse, and was very open about the mechanics of sex. I can’t remember hearing it for the first time, as she started quite early.

She made it quite clear that not only was I responsible for my own sexual behavior, but also for that of any boy I might date. Never, ever sit on a boy’s lap - too stimulating for the male. Too many kisses would lead to arousal that would be severely painful for the poor male if not allowed to be released, so to speak - I used to count kisses, and any more than 6-8 would have me worrying I was courting disaster.

I absolutely do not think it is fair for girls and women to be held solely responsible for the sexual behavior of both males and females.

That is nothing but an excuse used to justifying everything from rape to taking away women’s autonomy.

Every sane man is completely capable of putting their mindful impulses ahead of their primal impulses.

The attitude of “men just can’t help themselves”, “boys will be boys” is nothing more than an attempt to excuse evil behavior and shift the blame to the victim. This is what creates rape culture.

In 1953, the CIA murdered the Prime Minister in a coup and elevated the Shah.
It was a a coup over oil. ETA: The PM was arrested and put in prison, then house arrest until his death in 1967.

Afterward, the Shah got super rich and everyone got poorer and poorer.

Somehow I don't see the religious nuts on the SCOTUS being able to assume the same power as the Iranian Assembly of Experts with the Federalist Society serving as the Guardian Council.

First of all, poor Clarence would have to go. And then Amy (coat-hanger) Barrett and the rest of the female justices.

Finally we'd be pure. Except the remainder would be branded as heretics, just like Pence.

The fact that Islamists claim that their theological roots go back to Taymiyyah, Qutb etc. the reality is that fundamentalism is a recent development in the Islamic world, growing after the failure of pan-arabism and nationalism.

When you give access to a weapon (religion or guns) those people that want power will use these weapons.

Sure, there are really nice people who lead flocks without any apparent physical harm. These aren't the predators that are fleecing their sheep and encouraging extremism. The nice flocks are also not looking at some perhaps better options for their social activism.
