Not all of us can (or care to) see the embedded tweets in your posts.
Please be courteous and either summarize or copy/paste some readable text from your links into your posts. Doing so will enhance user experience and make you a hero to at least one DUer.
This has been a public service announcement on behalf of the Wood Party.

(9,189 posts)It'll mainly just be me with pictures of cats, musings about what I'm reading for school, and idle grocery store weirdness.
And yet, somehow, it will mostly be just as informative.

(5,198 posts)Im tired of being told I have to have special status with the uploader to view the material. At least I can read the original tweet and a few of the replies before Im told I have to log in to see any more.

Did you give DU and twitter explicit opt-in approval to share who is looking at which pages?

(2,769 posts)I know that Twitter is behind a membership wall.
Combo of motives: Basic consideration for different situations and, less altruistically, wanting more to know about the content and interact about it
Several days ago I posted a bunch of tweets, forgetting to copy and paste in the content. Only two people commented which tells me that the Twitter membership wall is a big barrier. And with Musk buying Twitter, there'll likely be fewer of us on there.
Even though maybe no one will see it I went back and edited it just now. Surprisingly fast and easy to do.

(32,102 posts)Those of us using old computers sometimes have to wait almost a minute for the embed to load. Or, we have to reload the page altogether, or click on the link if it doesn't load, which may or may not work. Some days I can't read 'em even when I want to.

(3,803 posts)But Twitter is an important original source these days and shouldn't be ignored.
I know the OP basically says this, but some of the replies make it look like people only read the subject line.

(51,308 posts)I think their lives must be rather boring. But hey, many people wouldn't like spending hours in a garden as I
do daily. To each their own.
So I don't care about that fact, but the false crap that gets posted here, later to be debunked, is annoying.
Maybe guidelines regarding "fake news"?

(9,666 posts)Those people looking through tweets and posting only the best of them save me tons of time and effort
MerryBlooms
(11,776 posts)And which don't. I'm not a Twitter member, so I know I can't read anything beyond the original tweet. Once I open their DU OP, I just delete or don't bother with going further. It's not a big deal. I haven't been on FB in forever, I don't bother with any posts labeled FB. Maybe folks who are Only linking to Twitter, could say in their header, *Twitter link only * . Or, *Clickbait Headline Only*, *Disinformation Campaign In Progress*. I would love that! 😄😄😄

I hate to ask, but does DU get some "benefits" from hosting so many twitter links?

(34,097 posts)i posted a jeff tiedrich tweet!
sadly, they do not.
i just either:
1. think the tweet is funny and want to share it with du
2. think the tweet is important and want to share it with du
3. i am in agreement with the tweet and want to share it with du
4. or whatever the hell else the reason at the moment is
erronis
(15,469 posts)Hate to say it, but we're now getting 3-5 DU postings per day saying "Tweet of the day" or some variation.
Y'all may think twitter is the cat's meow, for neow.
Pretty soon I expect to see someone start posting "Truthy Social of the Day"!

(15,469 posts)This isn't just a place to post random links without some commentary. It trivializes the site if people can't take the time to formulate an intelligent heart-felt response.

(16,955 posts)I want to hear what DU'ers think and have to say, not what some 'twit' or 'tweeter' has to say. If they find something interesting, fascinating, provocative, revealing, etc., etc., GO FOR IT.
BUT........ (remember the old motto: "Everything before the "BUT" is BULLSHIT!) - state your OWN opinion as to how and why your fellow DU brethren should read or care. Build your case - then present the 'tweet' as 'proof' or evidence - you know, just like we're asking the J6 Committee to awaken AG Garland......

(15,469 posts)If those that like the twitter approach really think about it, they are incentivizing the Musks and other vulture capitalists to try to get more of YOUR information. So they can sell directly and market to their other buddies.
As I posted a bit earlier, I wonder if DU gets some financial benefit by making twitter feeds so easy on this site. If so, I'd just like it to be transparent and publicly acknowledged. Same for facebuck and other PII-suckers (Personally-Identifiable-Information).

(34,097 posts)and btw--what the fuck difference does it make if du gets "some financial benefit by making twitter feeds so easy on this site."
and ???
why is it your business or mine to know?
if earl g goes out and delivers fucking pizza to help pay a few du bills do you want to know that too? in the name of being "transparent and publicly acknowledged" ???
should he start turning over his tax returns to duers so all of his finances are transparent and publicly acknowledged??

(2,769 posts)the link we're embedding, we're:
1) depriving Twitter / Musk of info about our fellow DUers since they don't have to go there to read the tweet, reading the excerpt on DU instead;
2) helping our fellow DUers with older devices or lousy bandwidth/rural internet to read interesting content without having to wait while the embedded tweet loads;
3) helping ourselves get information out we think should be shared; and
4) facilitate discussion about that info.
I always learn something from the discussion.
It's not quite as easy to copy tweet content on our phones but can be done, and it's quick and simple on a computer.

(45,640 posts)rather than accuracy or credible sources. Reporters tweet out important stuff as it's happening before someone back at the office types it up into a news article. Sometimes it's false or they misunderstood the situation. Sometimes it's deliberate misinformation.
We all choose what to click on and read. I don't have a twitter account yet I am able to see it posted here just fine

(32,147 posts)Many threads are almost unreadable because of the repetitive tweets in them.. I am hoping Elon Musk takes over Twitter for one reason only. So many posters here have claimed they will leave Twitter if he takes over. I am hoping they really will but I am skeptical they actually will.

(7,903 posts)Twitter Corporate is not a friend or anything close to it.
Nor do I want to be slimed by being near Twitter replies.
I dont have time or budget to see the dozens or hundreds of hours of videos posted daily.
I can and will read several hundred words a minute from outside of Twitter.

(6,931 posts)but I treat tweets as text the same as other posts. I don't care if people post twitter links without text because I figure if it's not worth their time to post something other than a twitter link, it won't be worth my time to read it either. Learned this by experience.
