For everyone on FB, Reddit, etc rooting for #TEXIT

If you ever needed a legal opinion on it, Antonin Scalia, that Republican saint and bastion of Conservatism stated, "If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede" in Texas v. White. Texit is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Until the break up movement reaches critical mass.

Until this supreme court rules that it’s okay.

Until blue states pass legislation not to fund red states.

Until red states prohibit interstate travel for abortions.

Until red states tamper with the mail to look for abortions drugs or contraceptives.

Until red states take one step too far toward full-blown fascism.

It won’t/can’t happen until it will/can.

A number of blue states are codifying choice in their state constitutions. Those states that recognize women as human beings can become the Sane States of America and the rest can be Jesusland.
Not optimistic about my state, Pennsylvania. We’re completely at the mercy of whoever wins the Governor race in Nov.

Idiocracy!

Isn't that the US?

No, no more. It's now home of the Christian Taliban.

Since the senate and electoral college are anti-democratic, what will happen one the blue states become even more populous yet we can’t get a senate or POTUS who reflect popular vote. If 60% of the people want liberal representation, but 60% want Christofascism, what happens to our country?

Once they withdraw from the union, they are no longer subject to the laws of the union. Of course, they gain no BENEFITS from being in the union either (loss of all military bases, infrastructure subsidies, access to federal lands, social services, representation. That ALL goes away. Any businesses operating from Texas suddenly become international, and all contracts with the United States government would come to a screeching halt and would need to be renegotiated.

Personally, I'd like to see the Texiters try. I suspect that for it to be binding, it would need to be a full plebiscite, not a legislative action, and I suspect that the Texiters would get trounced at the polls (Texas is nowhere near as red as it appears on the surface).

Liberals in Austin and Miami would be just as unhappy as conservatives in rural Oregon or New York. Maybe the solution is a greater degree of local autonomy.
