LEO and media are not identifying his weapons for some reason.
Its a lightweight carbine that shoots pistol calibre ammo like 9mm or .40.
Its best known for being able to fold in half easily and reassemble by simply unfolding it.
Its sold with 10 round mags but there are after market magazines with higher capacity

Picture of gun as shown on CNN:
?c=16x9&q=h_270,w_480,c_fill
(Changed pic to CNN news poc amd Edited out some personal stuff because of some unhappy people. I intended this OP to be informational)
ETA: An LEO guest on CNN stated that he believes the gun used in the parade massacre was a Smith & Wesson M&P15, a standard AR-15 design.

The worship of the gun in this country is obscene. It sickens me to see it on DU.

(34,169 posts)But I do think its important for us to share our knowledge about firearms on DU - especially during a high profile tragic case where the press is not providing basic facts.
I think its important because we end up creating laws based on firearm attributes.

(9,899 posts)That one is a light pistol caliber carbine (think purposeful compactness). Kel Tec does a lot of innovative designs, some good some bad. That one was likely a back up as it can't penetrate body armor.

(10,171 posts)And they're probably right. Problem is those law-abiding gun owners are the ones actively preventing lawmakers from enacting laws to stop the other 1% of gun owners, the ones most likely to go berserk and shoot dozens of innocents. Things have gotten so bad it's not enough to simply say "you don't have to worry about me, it's the other guy."

(50,949 posts)If a person needs to parade his guns, either in person or by posting breathless gun porn where he knows people don't want to see it (such as in GD), or if he need multiple guns that serve no purpose other than to reduce people to pulp and ruin lives, then no. A thinking person is not likely to take his word that he is responsible and sane.
In today's climate, the need to push others' noses into a hobby which ruins countless lives each day is not a great indicator of a balanced outlook.
MarineCombatEngineer
(12,369 posts)as I don't parade around with my 1 and only firearm, even though in AZ, we are allowed to, it's either in my truck when I'm on the road, secured in a bio metric lock box or at home when I'm taking a break in the same lock box.

EX500rider

(50,949 posts)for the purposes of killing scores of people in seconds should be outlawed too. Just like the pool noodles and spoons built specifically to reduce scores of people to pulp in seconds. In addition to the staircases built for mass murder.
Outlaw them all.
EX500rider
(10,842 posts)Get car to to 70mph and plow thru crowd of people, we are lucky mass killers don't do that more often, the death count would be higher.
On the evening of 14 July 2016, a 19-tonne cargo truck was deliberately driven into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, resulting in the deaths of 86 people and the injury of 458 others.
Scrivener7
(50,949 posts)All those staircase grabbers are coming to your house. They're gonna CONFISCATE your staircase!!! You better get a bigger staircase so you can fight them off!!!

EX500rider
(10,842 posts)And 99.9% of firearms are used for target shooting, hunting & home defense so I'd say they were designed for that.
Scrivener7
(50,949 posts)All in camo designs. I'm definitely the good guy with the big pool noodle in the next massacre by pool noodle.
I know people want to CONFISCATE them from me. I say, come get them from my cold dead hands.
And PS, so those guns which are manufactured for the sole purpose of turning scores of people into pulp in seconds are mostly used just to PRACTICE turning scores of people into pulp in seconds. And in your mind, that makes it better. That's a very interesting view into ... well, whatever.
Also, really? You think truck attacks are a bigger problem in America than gun massacres? Hon, that's just astonishingly stupid. Do yourself a favor, give that a think before you say it out loud again.
Where are you going to put your sticker? Does it say "man card?" Those are the ones that make my knees weak when I see them. Because then I know it's a REAL man. Till you see the card, you can never be sure. Particularly with the guys who need lots of guns.

(15,326 posts)of course, "I'd never drive it that fast on the Beltway, or through your neighborhood, but I will fight with all my might to ensure those that want to drive 185 MPH through a school zone are able to do so". Anything else would be tyranny.
I mean, why restrict anything when "I" have shown "I" am responsible?
If I have Hellfire missiles I would never use them. You shouldn't restrict my right to Hellfire Missiles just because someone else launched them at Shady Pines Elementary.
You don't need to worry about me. Trust me. I'm the "good guy" with Hellfire Missiles.

(18,636 posts)We allow cars that can go so fast. There is no reason anyone ever needs to go a 100 miles an hour over the highest posted speed limit.
Why not require governors on all cars allowing them to go no more than 80 miles per hour? Accidents would be less deadly and high speed chases would the chases would become a thing of the past.

(54,003 posts)A handgun is less concealable than a pocket watch.
The intention and functional utility of a long gun for shooting up a crowd of people is why weapons like this should be heavily regulated and the people who use them should be registered and monitored by the authorities.

The notable thing about Kel-tec is they often make innovation in designs.
Some of their reliability reputation is due to quality issues, but also the kinks not being worked out of new designs and people using the wrong ammo.
