The decision to indict the coup plotters around Trump will not be a hard decision. They used e-mails, forged documents. Garland can charge them with multiple crimes.
Trump did not use e-mails. He learned how to protect himself from the best corrupt lawyers. Trump used other people to insulate himself. However , this time Trump did not protect himself well. There is all kinds of evidence against him
No president has ever been indicted. Garland is going to make history and it will not be easy to convict a former president. The question is, will Garland go big or small when he decides to indict. Does he charge Trump with everything he can or does he focus on one charge that he has a good chance to get a conviction. A charge like obstructing congress which is a felony with a long prison sentence.

Garland has to make the decision. Does he set precedent and defend the Constitution or does he hand it off like a hot potato to a "Special Prosecutor" who will eventually bury the charges?
It's not as easy as some may say. It is a very difficult decision.
In my opinion, due to the severity of the crimes, he should choose to set precedent and defend our Constitution.

I think maybe the Republican Party's survival is more at risk than anything else?

(12,369 posts)I think there will be isolated pockets of civil unrest by some of the more hard core Trump supporters, but law enforcement should be able to put those down pretty easily.

(21,755 posts)We have open nazis in the streets... We know what they are, what they do... They will commit violence no matter what happens. We have fascists supporting tfg with vast sums of money and they have shown they will do anything to achieve their goals. I also believe in America and what it has stood for, and I think it is worth saving. I believe America gets saved by delivering justice to those that would lie, cheat, steal and kill for power.
I believe it is a very consequential decision yet an easy one to make. I have no desire for a fight... I would like to sit back and relax but... We don't always get what we want.
My niece had her first baby this morning:

I want that little girl to grow up in a world better than the one I had... One without fascists and nazis. Oe where she won't be under the rule of christo-fascists that have her a second class citizen. I want her to be educated and free to be who she is, not someone's property.
"I think maybe the Republican Party's survival is more at risk than anything else?"
Perhaps... That is up to republicans. if they chose to side with nazis and fascists... I do not think it will end well for them. I hope they will decide to side with those of us that believe in freedom and equality for all. We shall see.

Justice matters.

Multiple times. Witness tampering... (Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, for one, DURING her testimony!)
Still NO accountability...

(23,224 posts)That said, I think it will be very difficult to convict him of anything. One single juror can hang everything up, and it will be VERY difficult to empanel a relatively impartial jury. And we can't discount AnusMouth's knack for turning things into a clown-circus. For him, a trial will just be another rally.....
