Mad respect to one particular Republican tonight: FEMA director Craig Fugate

Craig Fugate, director of FEMA, former director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management under Jeb Bush. Appointed to head FEMA by Obama based on his demonstrated competence, and thank God for that.

It's one of the true shames of management that we all know Brown's name but for the most part don't know Fugate's. That's how it works, but I wanted to show some respect.

7. Exactly. My main point wasn't his party but that we should know his name rather than Brown's

Like I said, that's one of the bad aspects of management as a discipline, you're invisible until you screw up. I'd much rather we all knew Fugate's name than Brown's.

8. NOT making light of serious situations, but I compare it to umpires at a baseball game...

You never notice the umpires when they're doing their job and making good calls. You always notice them when they're blowing the calls. Fugate has a legit strike zone and is always in the right place to make the correct call. Brownie? Not so much, which made his epic fail all the more noticeable and memorable.

10. Definitely. That's why I'm glad we have a President who appoints competent people of any party

... rather than using FEMA as a sinecure for his hackish friends.

Fugate is a good FEMA director. Huntsman was a good ambassador. There are, in fact, good Republicans in the world, and Obama is more than willing to work with them, and this is a good thing.
