Think about the consequences of these horrible freedom losing laws [abortion laws and book banning and curriculum setting according to Republican ideology etc etc] we are now under--in the red states for now--with some of these laws in the courts for now and others in effect. If national laws come down, it will be worse.
How close are we as a society to the point of no return and losing all of our freedom? The state laws being implemented are beyond extreme and state governments are out of control facists.

We have already gone over the cliff. How painful the landing will be is ongoing.

(59,762 posts)If and when it happens, we won't realize it until after it has happened, and it will be too late to reverse without a lot of bloodshed, leading to a Pyrrhic victory at best.
The ones ultimately responsible will be resting in their well-prepared-in-advance retreats outside the country, and their immediate underlings will be busy proving the old, always true German proverb, "die Revolution frisst ihre Kinder auf." "The revolution eats up its children." From Oliver Cromwell to the Ayatollahs, always and again. Sometimes, it's immediate, like the Shah's enemies in Iran who unexpectedly found themselves at the wrong end of Revolutionary Guard firing squads. Sometimes it takes "four score and seven years." But the perfect revolution has never taken place. When it comes to Mississippi and Oklahoma, it will be no easier.

I will get little sleep that night, since 6 PM in Washington is midnight for me, and I probably have to work the next day.

(38,726 posts)We have a President who is decent, experienced, smart, well qualified and very sensitive.
We have leaders in Congress who are the same.
We have not gone over the cliff. It may look that way.
But we still have leaders who care.
And we still have leaders who are just and kind.
And there is one word that we all need to survive.
That word is "HOPE"
Please, Don't ever give up!!

(23,676 posts)I wondered how my parents and their generation felt about WWII. There must have been frightening moments, and days and weeks ..
And I recalled the endless Vietnam War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. We really WERE on the brink.
The current bunch of crap laws is blatantly unconstitutional. They enforce one religion's beliefs on all others.
Since appeals end up "you know where", some action is going to have to take place in a damn hurry. These laws are Theocraptic garbage.
More than that, I can't say, and new revelations of crimes are popping up, calling for more resources and investigations.
I used to gripe about twitter links, but tonight, I realize that the fact that they don't render is a blessing.

I am a techie and I would NEVER create an abomination like twitter or FB.
It's not the technology, but the creeps who run them that allow raw sewage to flow.

The leader of the other party is bad.
That will help our side in ways that no one knows.
