(16,373 posts)If I remember correctly, Bandar Bush was having breakfast in a Manhattan hotel with Poppy Bush when the Towers were struck. And then Bush the Lesser had the entire stateside Bin Laden contingent swooped up and flown back home to Saudi while all other aircraft was grounded.
Given all the advance intel the administration had before the attack, I'm back to wondering if LIHOP was really happening. Is it possible that they let 911 go ahead as a pretext for declaring war on Iraq? Remember that the PNAC plan was to scoop up Iraq and go on to the supposedly easy task of conquering 5 or 6 other Arab oil nations -- but NOT the Saudis. The whole Bush energy plan (and foreign policy) was to take over a large part world's oil supply. This makes a lot of sense -- in a very crazy way -- because Russia was close to overtaking Saudi Arabia as the world's largest oil supplier by the end of 2001. https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/200205_demokratizatsiya.pdf
Good grief! It makes altogether too much sense.

PNAC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was a neoconservative[1][2][3] think tank based in Washington, D.C. that focused on United States foreign policy. It was established as a non-profit educational organization in 1997, and founded by William Kristol and Robert Kagan.[4][5] PNAC's stated goal was "to promote American global leadership."[6] The organization stated that "American leadership is good both for America and for the world," and sought to build support for "a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity."[7]
Of the twenty-five people who signed PNAC's founding statement of principles, ten went on to serve in the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz.[8][9][10][11] Observers such as Irwin Stelzer and Dave Grondin have suggested that the PNAC played a key role in shaping the foreign policy of the Bush Administration, particularly in building support for the Iraq War.[12][13][14][15] Academics such as Inderjeet Parmar, Phillip Hammond, and Donald E. Abelson have said PNAC's influence on the George W. Bush administration has been exaggerated.[16][17][18]
The Project for the New American Century ceased to function in 2006;[19] it was replaced by a new think-tank named the Foreign Policy Initiative, co-founded by Kristol and Kagan in 2009. The Foreign Policy Initiative was dissolved in 2017.

(70,501 posts)Dick Cheney was running war games that simulated hijacked planes being flown into
D.C. and NYC and our air cover was over the N. Atlantic so an hour or so after the 1st
plane hit the WTC a slow moving passenger plane could get through the most highly
guarded air space in the world and hit the pentagon. Andrews AFB is less then 2 to 3
minutes away for an F-16 or F-15.
One of W's brothers had been in charge of security for one of the Airlines, the WTC, and
Boston's Logan airport.
And W just happened to be in front of a classroom of 1st graders when the first plane hit the
WTC. w lied about that too "When I saw the 1st plane hit I thought what a bad pilot and then
I saw the 2nd plane hit .... " Impossible there was no TV in the classroom where w was when
the planes hit.

I dont think its accurate to say he was in charge of security at any of those places you mention. (And by the way, the company youre referring to dealt with security at Dulles in Virginia/DC, not Logan in Boston.)
Anyway, he was on the board of a company called Securacom that dealt with electronic security for those places (and dozens of others) from 1993 until 2000.
Ive seen this conspiracy theory before. Maybe this is what Trump was referring to. Wouldnt surprise me.
Last thing Ill say on this: anyone reading this post can look up this info and decide for themselves what, if anything, this means. And if they think theres something to it, they can decide whether to explain here on DU why Democrats Lee Hamilton, Richard Ben-Veniste, Max Cleland, Bob Kerrey and others of our party who served on the 9/11 Commission covered for the Bush family. That should be interesting.

(49,001 posts)Confirmation bias occurs when a person accepts info as confirmation by a favorable analysis instead of objectively.
Only a few people actually saw it hit in real time and it was NOT on TV live. So when Bush said (and thousands of other people who saw they video also said) he "saw" the first plane hit, he is obviously talking about the seeing the video after the fact. When we (you, me, Bush) speak, we often do not include well-understood context. We don't say "When I saw the 1st plane hit on the video the first time I saw it about an hour after the event in the SUV on the highway, I thought ..."; we drop the "on the video" part because it is clear from the context. It is not a lie when you and I speak like that.
But you don't give the context or a link to video of him saying it or a transcript. You present a factoid out of context without evidence and then you hang your hat on it.
So it goes with so much of this conspiracy stuff. When bits are examined carefully one by one they don't stand up to careful scrutiny, but the factoids are repeated thousands of times knowingly by the theorists who sagely nod their heads. When bits are challenged, the immediate response is to deluge the doubter with dozens of other similarly flimsy factoids.
And your link that dresses up your post has nothing to do with your claim about seeing it on TV, or war games or "Airlines". It applies to earlier posts, not this one.

I also thought Michael Moore was wrong in that segment of Fahrenheit 9/11 where he speculated what was going on in Bush's pea-brain during those seven long, long minutes. I think the look on Bush's face was more of a "JFC, I knew they were gonna do something but fuck I had no idea it would be that bad!!". I saw that again, and still think the same thing.
And now, barely 20 years later we're still kissing Saudi ass.

(11,420 posts)The dick of death, Bill Kristol, Robert Kagen, alll war hawks. After 9/11 their plan was to use the military to conquer 7-mideast countries in 5-years. In order to use the military they needed "A Pear Harbor type event" in order to get the American people behind them.
The Project for a New American Century is all written up and was online. You have to look for it. The Pearl Harbor quote is in it.
I think the neocon plan is on the back burner for now. I think Liz is on the committee to look after neocon interest and future plans. If the fascist take power that will put a big dent in the necons plan for the Mideast. Still plenty of resources to plunder over there.

The Biden administration has declassified a 16-page FBI report tying 9/11 hijackers to Saudi nationals living in the United States. The document, written in 2016, summarized an FBI investigation into those ties called Operation ENCORE.
The partially redacted report shows a closer relationship than had been previously known between two Saudis in particular including one with diplomatic status and some of the hijackers. Families of the 9/11 victims have long sought after the report, which painted a starkly different portrait than the one described by the 9/11 Commission Report in 2004.
While the commission was largely unable to tie the Saudi men to the hijackers, the FBI document describes multiple connections and phone calls.
Years ago, the commission wrote that when it came to the Saudi diplomat Fahad al-Thumairy, "We have not found evidence that Thumairy provided assistance to the two hijackers." A decade later, it appears FBI agents came to a different conclusion. The report says Thumairy "tasked" an associate to help the hijackers when they arrived in Los Angeles and told the associate the hijackers were "two very significant people" more than a year before the attacks.
The report also casts new light on the meeting of a Saudi government employee with the hijackers in a restaurant. What was once portrayed as a chance meeting is now painted as a preplanned, well-orchestrated event. The 2004 9/11 Commission had described the Saudi employee, Omar al-Bayoumi, as "gregarious." Investigators wrote that they found him "to be an unlikely candidate for clandestine involvement with Islamic extremists."
Snip
In an interview, victims' families said they found other items in the report revealing. For example, both Thumairy and Bayoumi were each just a degree or two of separation away from others on a phone tree of known international terrorists. Bayoumi was in "almost daily contact" with a man with ties to the mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center attack and spent the night in a hotel with another man connected to one of Osama bin Laden's senior lieutenants.

(16,389 posts)"When will this guy just be told to quit insulting thinking people and STFU....he does not deserve one iota of respect..."
He definitely doesn't deserve any respect for his lies, but no one would ever be able to convince him of that. In his mind, in his "very large brain," he knows everything and nobody else knows anything. That's how narcissism works, and he's a very extreme example of it. We all know of instances where he had to do something he didn't want to do (like telling the rioters to go home on 1/6) on the advice of others, but you can bet he has layers and layers of rationalizations to explain away why he would take the advice of people he rewards as his inferiors.
If the media would stop reporting on things he says with a straight face, as if he deserves to be taken seriously, it might help, but I'm afraid certain journalistic habits are too ingrained for that to happen ant time soon. It would be great if the major news organizations were to start treating him like the dumbfuck he is, but that day may still be a ways off, sad to say.

(2,787 posts)at the DLI. Actually, I worked for the Embassy of Saudi Arabia at the DLI. I had the princes go through the school. I swear to god, I had Bandar go through the class. But I can't reconcile the figure I've seen in pics now with the figure I remember from then; they're so different. I know time does strange things to bodies (I know mine is hardly recognizable!), but geesh! The Bandar I remember from then was wild and crazy... always driving fast cars... and wrecking them. But a nice, personable, polite guy. Not like some of the students who I had to slap their hands away from me. To turn out like the Bandar I've read about today... just seems like a totally different person. It's too weird. But then, that family is totally dysfunctional, I guess.
I've never spoken much about that time of my life with anyone, though it did encompass about 5 years of my life, most of it good time. I made some excellent friends while I worked there, and have wondered what happened to them, but as they were then about 20 years older than me, I've often wondered if they are even still alive and what had happened to them. One major, at the time, was particular very quiet and soft spoken, and very good to me, a newly divorced single mother. He often had us over to his house to dinner with his wife (and their parrot!). They couldn't have kids, and I think they kind of adopted us while they were here in the states. They made sure we made it home to family in KS during the Eid of Ramadan, for example.
But all this with Bandar and the other one in power now, and the family rivalries, just doesn't seem real that I met and knew these guys... it was so long ago. And evidently, a lot of water under the bridge since then, too..
