LBJ did it against Goldwater with the Daisy ad:
We have to do something very similar and effective, using Social Security and Medicare, a woman's life be put at risk by banning abortion, etc.

(82,849 posts)How about we approach this problem you've conjured up in your empty little brain pan from another direction? It seems some people (e.g., heirs to massive family fortunes) aren't really paying their fair share to support the country and its citizens by which they so securely sit idly on huge piles of money that they can't spend in ten lifetimes while other citizens go hungry in the streets. Why don't we blow the lid off of earnings subject to social security withholding? Why don't we severely limit the amount of cash that can be passed in a family from generation to generation, with the excess being used to fund those programs you apparently hate so much?
How would you feel about that? The wealthy paying more like their fair share to support the country?

(1,204 posts)The money will flow into the Treasury such that, the Democrats, the Heroes, will declare that the 6.8%( times 2) withholding is now no longer needed and a lower %age is more prudent. Once again, the Democrats DECREASE taxes on the working class.
That's the Democratic Party/Progressive way.

(22,166 posts)is an inheritance. Anyone that has such a large stash has no right to either vote on or act on anything on Social Security or Medicare, since it's apparent that they have no interest in the welfare of others less well of then he and his ilk are.
Gutter mouth.

(17,643 posts)I paid into the SS fund the first time in 1962, and continued paying into it for a lifetime, with a promise of a return on my investment in my final years. To call that an entitlement is just bullshit.

(7,261 posts)Who knows what you've been doing, probably living off of some tax free trust fund, but me and every other working stiff has paid into SS for our whole careers.
You can pound that smug "entitled" bullshit up your greedy entitled ass.
