Trump confirmed Wednesday's deposition in the wide-ranging investigation in a post on his social network. He called the investigation a "witch hunt" and said "my great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides."
New York Attorney General Letitia James has sought the deposition for more than half a year as Trump and two of his children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, fought subpoenas through a trio of New York courts. They were eventually ordered to sit for depositions, and earlier this month Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump were questioned.
The subpoenas sought "testimony and documents in connection with an investigation into the valuation of properties owned or controlled by Donald J. Trump or the Trump Organization, or any matter which the Attorney General deems pertinent."

(10,150 posts)This is on the claims his ex-lawyer made about Trump - something to the effect of Trump varying the values of his properties to save taxes (lower valuation) or get loans (higher valuation) or something to do with insurance.
Like Manafort & Gates found out: the evidence of the paper trail for transactions like those is tough to overcome.

(9,884 posts)Taking the fifth cannot be held against someone being investigated. For a prosecutor to make it public that a defendant has taken the fifth would poison the jury pool and make it impossible for him to get a fair trial, leaving him a hole for appeal that any good lawyer could drive a bus through.

(9,884 posts)Let's see how damaging it is to Trump to have to take the Fifth Amendment because there is no way in hell that any competent lawyer would allow him to testify. As a former criminal attorney my opinion is that it would be malpractice for any lawyer to do anything else then have him refuse, which by the way, cannot be held against him by a grand jury.
