A letter to the editor . . .

A casual trip to our local Home Depot sadly displays America’s true concern for its children. I went to buy some corded windows blinds to replace damaged ones only to find there were none to be found; only cordless versions were available. When I asked the store associate for help, she mentioned corded blinds are now illegal as too many children are strangled by them. A quick online search reports 300 children died annually from strangulation by the cords — tragic but dwarfed by the 10,000 children killed each year by guns. And gun manufacturers adamantly refuse to put smart-phone like fingerprint locks on their guns.

Seriously, what’s wrong with this country?

I also suspect there is not a Corded Blinds Association paying off repubs in Congress.

Owners of corded blinds won't threaten to hunt you down and strangle you with a blind cord for making them mad.

but that "custom" exception would apply to most blinds. Since they are custom-measured and ordered.

My blinds make a percussive sound when I open them by hand but no chords. 😢

and other culturally important stuff. Now we don't have good things because there's too many modern conveniences and empty Starbucks cups cluttering my coffee table. I know you know.

Jayne Mansfield's car slid under a traffic trailer, killing the three adults in the front seat. The three children sleeping in the back survived.

Not long after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made it mandatory for all semi truck trailers to be fitted with under-ride bars, also called DOT bars or "Mansfield bars." The steel bar hangs from back of the cargo area and is designed to stop a car before it rolls underneath the trailer.

Oddly enough, no other such accident has ever happened.

One accident, and a serious change. Meanwhile, remind us again how many people die from guns every year?
