Charles Pierce: You know what would convince me Liz Cheney is the ally everybody tells me she is?

She could go to Ohio and campaign for Tim Ryan, or to Georgia to campaign for Raphael Warnock. She could work whatever moderate Republicans are left on behalf of Democrats.
Tick, tick, tick...

which she has stated is to keep Trump from office.

But at the same time she needs to remain relevant in the national conversation. I really don't see her out on the stump for MAGA running candidates nor do I see her even remotely supporting any Democratic candidate. So, with the number of more traditional conservative candidates on the slate and even fewer Senate and Governor candidates, I think over the next 18 months it'll be hard for her to remain relevant.

may be true in some respects, we need to remember that regardless of her support through the Trump disaster, she is still a Republican.
Just because she knows what Trump is doesn't mean she is a friend to Democrats.
She would turn on us the instant it was useful to her.

The Cheney's are not my cup of tea and are not worthy of admiration in the true sense. Nonetheless, circumstances put us in predicament. We would not be here without her; either way.
Sinking in quagmire, one can't be choosy as to who tosses the rope.
She is what she is; the enemy.
As part of that enemy, she has turned on her alliance.
Malign her if you will. She is still in opposition to our enemy on issues we can use her support.

As long as such campaigning doesn't unduly interfere with her J6 duties. That's paramount. The rest would be to stem the tide of fascism within her party. Promoting Dems against Trump-backed candidates or simply promoting moderate Republicans at this point would be a huge step forward, particularly with her father's establishment framework backing her.

Opposing the very dangerous Republican treason does not mean she has to be a Democratic political ally, like this is some black-white/either-or world.

What is true is that Cheney sacrificed her position and leadership in congress to protect her nation from what the Republican Party has become. She's still about as hard-core traditionally conservative as one can be without sliding off the edge with the extremist nuts.

Best guess for many is she's going to continue the battle by running for president -- as herself, on her own platform that has nothing to do with us.

Let Cheney and other non-fascist conservatives take the Republican Party.

Frankly, I'm surprised none of his supporters have suggested this. They've done everything else to kiss his ample ass. With Trump's ego, he would love to have the party named after him.

And that includes Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

They sided against the people, and against fighting inflation and against the high cost of prescription drugs, especially for seniors, and went with the corporate rich and powerful, the autocrats who want to buy America and divide it up among them, what's left of it, that is, that they haven't already divided up among them.

Senator Warnock is way, way, way too much of a sincere Christian and a genine man of the people for her to ever speak a work in favor of his re-election.

She deserves credit for standing against the corruption, dishonesty and demagoguery of the orange headed buffoon and his fascist allies, and for helping determine where the line is between Fascists and Republican Conservatives, but she is still a Republican conservative whose politics and economic perspective is against those in this country who work for a living and struggle to make it financially.

Wyoming is a write-off. But, looking at the numbers, she could do some real damage to the Fascists if she decided to go ahead and run as an independent. That would be the best thing she could do to stay relevant at this point.

As far as I know, Liz Cheney has no intention of changing parties. If she remains a resident of Wyoming, she can become an Independent, and that's respectable for a politician to do if they lose their Party's support.

She can move to another state and remain a Repuke. Running in another district/state is OK for certain candidates. (She would have to wait until the next election in 2024 though.)

But jumping into campaigning for any Dem anywhere would probably get her kicked out of the GOP, and I don't think she wants to do that.

Sometimes people who don’t agree on much find something they agree on. It doesn’t mean they agree on anything else. Just this one thing, whatever it is. That was the case with LC. I appreciate that she stood up with Dems to hold the meat goblin accountable, but that doesn’t mean she’s our new best friend. Lots of people worked up because they wrongly thought she’d drift over to team blue. Why would anyone think that in the first place? She’s staunch team red. Always has been. So I don’t really “need” her to show me anything by campaigning for Dems in red states (which is utterly ludicrous on its face, Charlie). I don’t need her to “show me who she is.” She did that a long time ago.
