(95 posts)If Beto wins (and I sincerely hope he does), just remember that he'll STILL be dealing with an overwhelmingly red state legislature. Yes, he'll do his best to implement his policies, but it'll be a very steep uphill climb.

(54,447 posts)That would be a wonderful start. The longest journey, as they say.............

Even if it does not happen this year, I think that Beto will achieve higher office, if he keeps coming back!
I don't even know who else ran for governor or US senator, in the last 20 years before his attempts... He is getting national attention.
Who knows? We could get lucky this year. I pray for Texas...

(54,447 posts)I was at a meeting of the Texas Democrats, and Jim Carville was the featured speaker. He said that when he was asked to speak to the Texas Democrats, he thought the meeting would be taking place in a phone booth. There are a few more of us now than there were back then.

(6,832 posts)That was a few years ago. And I'm older so I thought he seemed too young. And really not together.
Now I see him maturing, and how quick he is, and his empathy, and more and more I am reminded of Bobby Kennedy.

(145,631 posts)It was part of a group of delegates and he seemed nice but quiet. Again there were a couple strong personalites in this group. . I went to an early event in 2017and like him. Beto has really developed.

(82,849 posts)This is retail politics at its most retail. Small room, maybe three dozen people, and O'Rourke is working it like a backwoods pastor at an altar call. Responding to interruptions in real time, respectfully, and forging ahead with what he wants to say to the people there to hear him.
He doesn't have to win every vote from the deeply conservative areas of Texas, but if he peels off a couple-three percent of the vote from Abbott, or just persuades some people to leave their ballot for governor blank, he greatly enhances his prospects for winning. I'm really interested to see if this works. I've been saying for many years that this is a campaign tactic that could prove decisive for Democrats.

(4,590 posts)plaid shirt at about 10 o'clock from Beto, next to the guy with the Beto shirt. That's a good friend of mine with the
"Wir leiben BETO!" sign. The Abbott people were being stupid, for lack of a better way of putting it. One of them shouted at me if I had a bad of weed on me as I was leaving. That was a great rally.

(15,960 posts)because Beto is a Communist.
Beto got a chuckle out of that. Beto told him that as a business man he is actually a Capitalist and makes payroll every week. Beto also acknowledged he usually gets called a Socialist, Beto had the crowd jumping to their feet.
Beto is unwavering in his passion to speak to all voters.
I just worry about his safety.
