Once thought incurable.
Today, HIV is almost always treatable with medications.
Today, 95% of HIV Positive(POZ) people can bring their viral load to zero, with modern meds.
Zero viral load means highly advanced blood screening tests cannot detect the virus.
Again, HIV was once thought to be incurable.
Of course, an obstacle to meds in the good ole USA, cost. Same with 3rd world countries.
Science has proven to wipe out the once invincible/incurable HIV.
Science is also winning the war against Covid.
Remember the panic with HIV/AIDS?
Science prevailed.
We've developed effective vaccinations against Covid.
Again, Science prevailed.
Notice how the Democratic Party respects and follows the science.. of everything Covid, global warming..
I heart Democrats becuz Dems give a FUCK about science.
When the GOP'ers flunked out of 8th grade science, Dem students were the "nerds" that they cheated off of!!!
Think about it like this. Democrats cure Aids and give us an effective vaccine regimen against the most rapidly evolving and deadly virus, Covid and its variants.
We have 2 choices.
The party of pro-scientist nerds that cure disease, or the party that wants to ban choice..
What kind of fucked evil makes people vote Republican nowadays?
Hatred.

(57,489 posts)Right now, you can treat it, but you can't cure it.
HIV treatment (antiretroviral therapy or ART) involves taking medicine as prescribed by a health care provider. HIV treatment reduces the amount of HIV in your body and helps you stay healthy.
There is no cure for HIV, but you can control it with HIV treatment.
Most people can get the virus under control within six months.
HIV treatment does not prevent transmission of other sexually transmitted diseases.

(46,736 posts)Sobering show about aging in the gay community. Neil Patrick Harris's character's long-term partner drops him at the beginning of the series, and then we get a personal tour of what it's like to navigate through the single scene. Lots of interesting interactions between the older gay community and the new generation. Neil Patrick Harris's character was not too keen about some of the things he encountered.
Great series for anyone who is interested.

(980 posts)Ronnie Rat Raygun. Early on he denied funding for research, as his lackies called a gay cancer. So many were killed his action. One was my younger brother. As a result, I shall never, in my life, vote for that party. (Not that I ever have) I shall also see to it that they lose any election, for any office that I can vote in. Yep, I have been doing this for a long time. Not always successful, but always doing whatever I can, and continue to do so.

(5,938 posts)I get what you are saying though - its not the death sentence it once was if you have access to the meds. It is functionally curable thanks to science.
