An August 17 poll carried out by Public Opinion Strategies (POS) for Pittsburgh Works Together found Democrat Josh Shapiro has a commanding *50 to 35 percent lead over Trump-endorsed candidate Doug Mastriano. (*Changed to reflect that Shapiro is in the lead). Pennsylvania State Senator Mastriano previously claimed the 2020 Presidential Election was "compromised" and the Republican indicated he wanted to overrule voters in the Keystone State.
Mastriano's campaign against supposed election irregularities in Pennsylvania resulted in positive remarks from Donald Trump, who has continued to allege widespread voter fraud.
Despite a lack of evidence to support the claim, the belief that the 2020 election was somehow stolen is now a shared belief among many Republicans who vocally support Trump.
While Mastriano has won Trump's praise, poll tracker FiveThirtyEight shows five previous surveys found rival Shapiro has opened a solid lead over the GOP candidate

(4,218 posts)Mastriano is traveling to a nearby town on Mon, to a restaurant I used to like. Ugh. The cult will be there but I hope to see their sad faces in Nov.

(14,004 posts)run like were behind but I just dont see this guy winning. Trump has a sort of dark charisma (I dont see it but thats what people tell me) that Mastriano doesnt have.

(8,301 posts)If things are the way they are now (or better) in November, I suspect the polls will drastically underestimate Dem performance in a bigger way than they overestimated it in 2020. GOTV plays a big role in turnout in every election. Problem is, COVID hampered those efforts substantially in 2020. But not this Roevember!

(4,552 posts)He has rubbed elbows with QAnon conspiracy theorists, Trump's most prominent election-denying allies and people arrested in the attack on the U.S. Capitol. His active account on Gab a social media site popular with white supremacists and antisemites where he also spent $5,000 for advertising prompted a condemnation by the national Republican Jewish Coalition.
Then there's Mastriano's embrace of Christian nationalism, which scholars generally define as championing a fusion of American and Christian values, symbols and identity. Christian nationalism, they say, is often accompanied by a belief that God has destined America, like the biblical Israel, for a special role in history, and that it will receive divine blessing or judgment depending on its obedience.
