Critics of Senator Rick Scott, a Florida Republican who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), resurfaced a past Medicare fraud settlement from his tenure as CEO of a hospital corporation, as his committee reportedly is running short on cash and pulling ads in support of GOP Senate candidates with less than three months until the midterm election.
The NRSC is the primary organization working to raise funds and support Republican candidates in the party's bid to take back the majority in the upper chamber of Congress. Scott has led the committee since January 2021, but The Washington Post reported on Friday that campaign advisers are asking "where all the money went and to demand an audit of the committee's finances" as the NRSC pulls ads and runs low on funds.
Many on Twitter pointed to Scott's past Medicare fraud scandal during his time as CEO of Columbia/HCA. When Scott was deposed in 2000 amid the investigation, he pleaded the Fifth Amendment 75 times.
Columbia/HCA later reached a settlement with the Justice Department of $840 million in 2000, and another settlement of $881 million in 2002, with the combined fines totaling $1.7 billion. At the time, this was the record health care fraud settlement, although it has since been surpassed, according to PolitiFact.

(9,350 posts)Even if it turns out that this is only money mismanagement and not fraud, an ad needs to be run. The DNC should ask the American people if they want people who cannot even manage campaign funds to be in charge of a trillion dollar economy. If you cannot management a campaign funds successfully what are the chances you can run a trillion dollar country successfully.
There are some many ways the Democrats could go with that theme. One is, "no wonder no Republican President has balanced the budget in the last 40 years". "Bill Clinton, a Democrat not only balanced the budget, he left the country with a $100+ billion surplus and projected trillion dollar surpluses".
Another way Democrats could go is to say, "Bill Clinton left office with a surplus and a booming economy. George Bush left office with a deficit and a collapsing economy. Barack Obama left office with a booming economy and a reduced deficit. Donald Trump left office with a collapsing economy and increased deficits. Joe Biden is presiding over a booming economy and reduced deficits. Maybe recent news about Sen. Rick Scott mismanaging Republican campaign fund gives us a clue for why Republicans do such a bad job with the economy. Republicans are just not good with money".

(81,318 posts)Especially that last paragraph.
And HELL YEAH, erpowers, the Dems need to run an ad. And RERUN it all over everywhere, and CLONE it.
And then run and rerun the clones of it. While still running the original also.
Saturate the airwaves! Seems to me we cant afford to be subtle or over-cautious. We have an America to save!

Most of the coverage of his documented and adjudicated fraud was reported like this
"Rick Scott did something that had something to do with Medicare, but whatabout his opponent....."
