Former President Donald Trump has launched a furious attack on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a dispute over the GOP Senate mid-term campaign.
Trump said the senior senator from Kentucky should spend more time and money helping Republican Senate candidates get elected and "less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China."
"Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard working Republican candidates for the United States Senate," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

(6,537 posts)He loves chaos, but also he is some kind of sadist. He never lets even the slightest negative comment pass, and he always gets even. If you look at him cross-eyed, he'll put your eyes out. He probably spends much of his time deciding on targets to disparage. It's not a question of who he is flinging poo at this time, but who's next in line.

(6,537 posts)She wouldn't have been my first choice to fill the post. It does seem like the fact she is married to Mitch was some kind of factor in the choice. Now that he is mean mouthing her, one could speculate that she turned him down.
Of course, this might be the first chapter in overturning one of the cases that allowed mixed marriages. Or, it could be simple distraction. Who knows.

(6,537 posts)McConnell is not without, shall we say, influence. Taking a shot at his wife may not have been the smartest thing to do.
As I said, I don't like any of them. But--

(14,764 posts)He is raking in money that would otherwise go to local candidates.
Yet he isn't spending it to get anyone elected.
He really isn't campaigning for them either.

(54,405 posts)A former president who has lost an election cannot be nominated by the same party again if he hasn't officially declared within one and a half years of being out of office.
A careful perusing of the rules of the Republican Party will not turn up the text of this rule, but no matter. McConnell makes these things up as he goes along. Like Tom Lehrer sang; "a man whose allegiance is ruled by expedience." Piss him off, and he'll dig up a rule that you won't like. Whether it existed yesterday or not makes no difference to him.
The Republican version of the Golden Rule is "He who has the gold makes the rules." In the Senate Republican Caucus, McConnell has the gold.
