'We Don't Want DeSantis to Just Walk Into the White House'

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — On the first day of early voting in Broward County, Florida’s Democratic mecca, Jared Brown, a 41-year-old lawyer who until recently had never attended a Democratic Party meeting, drove to the polls in suburban Hollywood, slipped on a party T-shirt and grabbed a clipboard to go knock on voters’ doors. He was motivated by anger.

Anger at Republicans in general — for appointing conservative judges, redirecting money from public schools and governing in a way that struck him as “authoritarian” — and anger at one Republican in particular: Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose polarizing persona has come to suck up all of the state’s political oxygen.

“It’s too offensive,” Brown said of the culture wars stoked by the governor and state lawmakers. “If you don’t fight them now,” he added, “it’s just not going to get any better.”

Going into Tuesday’s primary election, Florida Democrats like Brown are angry, especially at the ascendant DeSantis and the way he seems to them to act like someone who already has his eye on the White House. But it is not clear that in the choices they have to challenge him — Rep. Charlie Crist, who served as governor from 2007 to 2011, and Nikki Fried, the state’s agriculture commissioner — they have someone who can beat him.

Assuming TFG does not run, of course.

But I have Sooooooo Little Faith in the people of FL to do the right thing.

The fact he has a 50% approval rating, tells me all I need to know about the Morons who apparently make up the majority of FL.

I swear, I think that almost all of that approval, comes from the fact he says "Woke" in every single speech and statement, and that he "owns the libs."

near Miami our our way to Key West for the day, I had a t shirt that says

OBAMA

SURFS

from his hometown in Hawaii, and as I am walking in the parking lot a guy comes hurriedly out of his retail storefront and yells at me in an excited way "I Love your Obama SUCKS t shirt", I told him what it actually said and he gave me the look of DEATH and turned around went back inside.

I dont think ALL floridians are like that and I know I would get that in many places, but I will never forget the look on his face before he know I was not a traitor, he was so excited to see a fellow racist.

Anyway, I dont think we can count on Floridians to do the right thing, but most red states will be like that.

who don't usually vote. Why? Because they're the ones working the crappy paying service industry jobs, looking after the older, white, Republican retirees, and the young folks can't afford to take the time off, frankly.

Now I realize my opinion isn't based on any widespread research or polling, but it is a fact that there are massive numbers of folks in Florida who work the golf courses, restaurants, marinas, theme parks etc. who might not be too engaged politically, and up till now anyway, haven't paid much attention. The rich old farts are the ones who voted for DeathSentence and Trumpy, not the hardworking younger folks.

Overturning Roe coupled with the fact that we clearly have a fascist for a governor says to me that we might just see some remarkable turnout in November. Not to mention the work that David Hogg and others have been doing to get that generation motivated.

We can hope.

Frankly? No. No we don't.

As has been observed many times in the past, we get the government we deserve, and if the electorates isn't willing to correct what's gone wrong, then so be it.

To paraphrase an old saying, remember that these people vote, and if you don't vote, you're letting them vote for you.

I hope that message is finally getting through to the largest voting block in this country, the non-voter.

What did he say that indicated that he was a racist? Not saying that he wasn't, but I'd be willing to bet he'd have said the same thing in 1996 about Clinton and today about Biden.

But that’s just me. I’m sure many Floridians would prefer he attend an intimate dinner for two, where the two were 16 foot Florida alligators, and he were the main course.
