(1,301 posts)I would have to think this is very cost-effective as well, and the impression stays with the observer. Plus, if more than one person is in the vehicle, then the potential for a conversation on the topic.

(10,832 posts)I know there are DUers who aren't fond of John Fetterman. But you have to give the man props for his media and ad blitzkrieg. Pointed and so damn funny.
He's not giving Oz enough time to come up for air. Personally? I love it.

(12,157 posts)Anybody who wasnt fond of Fetterman in the primary needs to get on board for him in the general. Hes our our nominee in this race.

(2,807 posts)I got a couple dozen lectures pooh-poohing the Lt. Governor. Long lists of Fetterman's faults. And that only a certified dunce would dare concoct a pro-John Fetterman post on Democratic Underground.
That might be a slight exaggeration on my part.
But the fact remains that in roughly 40 replies there weren't many kind words offered. One of the more encyclopedic lectures I was handed said that all he was good for was being snarky on social media, which I was told was wrong and horrid, and he should stop that post-haste. And since he mostly campaigns in hoodies and cargo shorts, he's a slobby bum, sprint down to the suit store this very minute for a few reams of navy-blue without pinstripes and a pair of sensible Hush Puppies.
And I'm over here thinking, "That's fucking rich. Griping about how he's conducting his campaign when every poll shows him with a double-digit lead all while recovering from a stroke he suffered 2 months ago."
Anyway, I feel better now that I got to gripe, complain, and be snarky.

(10,832 posts)Because Pinback is right: Fetterman is our nominee whether you like him or not. He's going to win this for Pennsylvania, a very good thing for Dems. He needs and deserves our support. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass how he dresses or the way he looks. It's what he believes, the liberal issues he supports and the fact that he can win a state we really need.
Generally I run across the negativity on the open forums, a place like the Washington Post where you have posters who are deliberately contentious. I always suspect their motives and their own political leanings.
But I still post in those places and beat the drum for the people I support. I consider it a duty whether the naysayers like it or not.
We gotta keep the faith and the flame burning.
As for negative takes on DU or Dem bashing? If I had seen that activity I would have flagged it. This is a forum for Democrats. If we can't support our own then what the hell are we doing? Primaries are one thing but once a general election is at stake, it's all hands on deck.
Keep the faith!

(2,807 posts)But here's the thing, most folks don't know much about John Fetterman, which is totally understandable. He' was mayor of tiny Braddock PA, pop. 1,700 from 2006-2019. In 2018 he ran and won Lt. Governor of PA, an office he currentlystill holds. Not a glamorous political career.
Most folks are just now learning about John Fetterman.
What I do have confidence in, is the more they are exposed to John and his FANTASTIC wife Gisele the more they're going to like him.
He earned a B.A. in Finance from Albright College, An MBA from UCONN, and a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
When getting his Master's at UCONN Fetterman joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and for 2 years was paired with an 8-year-old boy whose dad had died of AIDS and whose mom was dying of it too.
After getting his Master's he joined Americorp, sent to Pittsburgh teach students pursuing their GED. That's how ended up in Braddock where he ran and the Mayor's office.
I've followed Big John's career since 2015 when a DU'er turned me on to him. He's wise, he's brave, and he's caring.
John Fetterman is the genuine article!

(10,832 posts)I believe you're absolutely correct. John Fetterman will make a fine senator. No doubt he will shake things up because from everything I've seen? He's a fighter and doesn't care whose feathers he ruffles. It should be exciting to watch.
I should say that Big John is a man of the moment, too. A decade or two ago, his persona and approach might not have played as well as it does now, particularly in a state like Pennsylvania. But in the moment? We need an element of toughness, the brash voice, the willingness to push back hard. Add humor to that and you have a winning combination for an electorate so weary of same old, same old.
In my mind, there's no way you can ignore a man like John Fetterman. He's our 'Force of Nature,' and that's a good thing, a very good thing.

(2,807 posts)Most def, he's not over-refined. But he's more refined than he's given credit for being. He grew up affluent, though he certainly doesn't come off that way. Not everybody has a Master's from Harvard University.
He looks like bar bouncer who never owned anything not made by Harley-Davidson. But thankfully I finally learned to not pay attention to how anybody looks. That took me some growth, but boy am I glad I finally got here. He's an intelligent man. But more importantly, he's quite wise.
A man of action. Brash. And not everybody likes that. I do.
Some things he's done:
His first house, He later purchased an adjacent warehouse for $2,000, placed two shipping containers on the roof for extra living space and moved in.
2010, In November 2010, Fetterman was arrested and immediately released after refusing to leave the property of the U.S. Steel Tower in Pittsburgh. Fetterman was protesting the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center controversial closure of Braddock Hospital. The Braddock Hospital, which employed 600 people, was Braddock's largest employer and its closure left the town without any healthcare provider.
And this makes me happy, Starting in 2013, Fetterman began defying a 1996 Pennsylvania law that banned same-sex marriage and began marrying LGBT couples inside of his home.

I.e., avoids this type of thing -
When it first opened, we used to call it "the ghost bridge" because hardly anyone used it.
