Leave it to our ex president Carter to say

With more concision and eloquence I can muster about this:

?t=akM1Ki7xBTCgbF22a5dEjg&s=19
Half the so called Xtians in this country walk right past Jesus's "brethren" starving on the street to go "drink duh little grape juice and eat duh little cracker" in thousand dollar suits, Gucci bags and pumps.
Often the fall into homelessness starts simply falling through the cracks, or by banishment from religious pretentiousness, like in my case, RayGun Era.
No, I didn't drink or "do dwugs". I made solid 3.6 in school. But I got outed as gay in my redneck hometown and "run off" by the same ilk it nauseates me to realize they're cranking up the Nazi shit again.
I've yet to ever have even one single POSITIVE experience from the churchy ilk in over half a century now, other than singing gig in a gay men's chorus.
So before playing the "probably ruined his/her life with drugs" attitude, which may be true now...
It's the excesses and the locked doors at "God's houses" all over the country, the jonesed up extravagances so many parishioners believe they divinely deserve, and token donations only to "help" organizations that only pennies ever reach their intent, while the reality of that person walked past briskly as not to smell the balance of excess is trying to just get through another insanely miserable day.
Otherwise, "Xtians" when anyone is sleeping on that church's doorstep, you've failed the test, you've bamboozled yourself, cloaked yourself in fears, and created an embarrassment to the world that giving a dollar to some homeless person does not come close to a solution.
TFG, like a stopped clock, tangented onto the right idea for the wrong reason, of course, about the homelessness issue. It's everyone's responsibility and it's long past time minimal shelter, voluntary rehab, outreach services (real soup ktchens, not preachy shit) were revived by these jet set church bastards who purport their "goodness and mercy".
And of course Fox News ilk like Tucker have some boogersome karma coming.

My episcopal church is very liberal and walks the walk. We regularly have members who go down to the border to help immigrants and refugees with food and other support. And they don’t try to convert them either.

And I know there are churches that do a lot of good things. I grew up in a fairly liberal Methodist Church. They taught equality. We were brought up to be considerate of other peoples feelings and help weaker people with our strength.

Old Cynic used to theorize the party of fat cats that FDR called "economic royalists" realized there weren't enough of them to win elections. Thus they needed large groups of suckers if they ever wanted to "win" and prevent the gubment from taxing them in order to serve those poor suckers--The People--and limit inequality. Two large groups of suckers they found they could pander to in exchange for their enthusiastic support were evangelicals and racists.

The Dobbs abortion decision is effectively a product of 40-50 years of pandering to fake Christians. You're not "pro-life" if you refuse to act on gun crime that most other countries prove every single day to be largely preventable.

Thank you, President Carter!

I can date the shift towards the tyrannical type of “christianity” with near precision: 1969. My 2nd ship was on its first leg from Bremerton (Seattle) on its way to the Home Port in Norfolk, VA, and we anchored out off the coast at San Diego. We had to ride our Liberty Boat from the ship to land. The sky and water were brilliantly blue, not a cloud in the sky. As we bounced along wave by wave, the dozen or so of us sat jabbering or looking at the gorgeous sky and water. Except for one shipmate: Skinny, wiry, acne kid who sat apart from everybody, hunched over, looking down/reading his Bible. I wanted to say, “Look UP at all the wonders your God created – water, sky, sun, and yes your fellow humans.”

Another couple of years I finished my enlistment (1971) and went back to Liberal university, where the ‘70s geared up to full tilt – all manner of Jesus Freaks, Scientologists, Buddhists, pop-Psyche “alternative” kooks, and more. And then in 1976, there came Jimmy CARTER with his Bible and Sunday School. The thing is, our entire previous lifetime of “Separation of Church and State” was over, done gone from 1960 when KENNEDY had to swear his personal religious affiliation would not in any way touch his governmental role.

As for Jimmy, despite being a generally decent fellow and President, he had a nest of VIPERS at his breast: Chris MATTHEWS who turned out to be a RAYGUN worshipper, Pat CADDELL the pre-Karl ROVE influencer and future Faux stalwart, David RUBENSTEIN the speechwriter who went on to co-found The Carlyle Group and is now a gazillionaire (albeit philanthropist). I say that the nefarious staffers are attracted for SOME reason to the Leader of whatever (viz., Drumpf and his crew of scum). They must have been attracted to Jimmy for SOME reason.

But he’s a great human, and good to see his nutshell about Evangelicals.

The RW and power brokers have long been planning to undo any FDR-era social programs and justice. They latched onto the evangelicals as an easy target with a big following.

Strange to see the [C]atholic versions of these same types packing our court systems. One would not think that evangelical/protestants would get in bed with [C]atholics. (/sarcasm).

by the long-life of his and Roslyn's souls in service to Americans and humanity. I approve of his "lust for that democracy" while protecting Constitutional separation of church and State. The Godly gift of that "free will" and the ability to practice "freedom" to be selfish, immoral, and unethical is that which has hijacked and tribalized church and State, weakening both! They are such shining examples of privacy in the fields of diverse faith and singleness of humility in practice.

i never gave to homeless. esp if they were in front of a place that sold liquor, like my local walgreens. once in while, i'd get conned.
but i had a bf, a trumpkin yet, who collected coats, and made survival kits and went out after midnight when it got below zero to pass them out under the bridges in his barrio.
ever since, i'm a pretty easy touch.

i know the regulars at the walgreens now. i was there today. i passed the guy on the way in, older guy in a chair, and said- i'll catch you on the way out, and you know i will.
when i came out he had a young bud w him. i put a couple bucks in the cup. asked him how he was doin, and told him i was hoping to hook up w my young bf when i got home.
he was grateful for the few bucks, and i was grateful for the laughs.

the local npr station had a regular who loved the pledge drives. he used to say- give until it feels good.
i got locked out of hospice volunteer job by the plague, and doing little one on one things fills a bit of the gap.
