Go Val!

(200 posts)By my rough calculations, about 1.5 million Democrats voted in this primary... however, many people in Florida, myself included, register as republicans because they have been in charge for the last 20 years and that seems to be the best way to have some say in our government. Come November, I believe the numbers in Florida are going to be awesome.
It's worth remembering, Rhonda Santis only won by about 36,000 votes after a recount...

(145 posts)Why was MSM (CNN) saying this morning that Crist has like zero chance of beating DeSantis and indicating that Florida is no longer purple but solid red? Your insight as a resident is appreciated.

(200 posts)So, no matter what happens, we will end up with a republican governor. Crist used to be referred to as "Chaingang Charlie" and he would fund raise on that moniker.
I have hope for our state and for our country, and I vote. The only poll that counts is the one 79 days from now and I'm doing my best to get out people who don't know or don't care. One thing that Desantis didn't mess with is vote by mail and I'm helping him regret that decision. If you pray, pray for us or spit on a fire before you douse it with chicken blood and satanic incantations 😁.

(51,576 posts)That's why comparing REPORTED contributions between a Democratic and Republican candidate is so misleading. The Republicans invariably have dark money right wing PACs spending many millions of dollars running ads in their favor or against their opponent, and that is not counted as a contribution.
I'm not sure where you got your numbers from, but since 2021, Demings has raised $47 million, more than Rubios near-$37 million reported haul. But because she has such low statewide name recognition, she has been burning through her money to introduce herself to Florida voters. As of Aug. 3, Rubio had $15 million on hand, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. Demings had just under $9 million, according to the commission. https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida-politics/elections/2022/08/19/val-demings-outspending-marco-rubio-in-a-big-way-in-tv-campaign-ads/
I'm sending Val another $25. If you don't want to, fine, but please don't imply she doesn't need money. Her campaign against Rubio will be a bloodbath. And hopefully with more small donors like me, she will win.
In the last 3 weeks, I've sent $25 donations to Demings, Warnock, Abrams, Fetterman, Tim Ryan, Rochelle Garza, Mark Kelly, Mandela Barnes, Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, Cheri Beasley, Sharice Davids and Katie Porter. That's $325 total. But saving our democracy is worth it. Some people have given their lives for it. I'm just giving money.

(58,785 posts)depraved, corrupt extremist the conservatives have work with. His record looks good only to cemented-in voters.
She's very redoubtable. Her name's already known statewide and nationally as one of the impeachment managers for tRump's first impeachment and as a possible VP candidate. And donations to her, even in the primary, exceeded those to the sitting senator, which must have him very alarmed for what it says.
Rubio et al are trying to portray her as a low/no-accomplishment nobody and of course to tie "the squad" etc around her neck. That one's a loser. She's a solid liberal, smack in the middle of the Democratic pack in congress -- https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/val_demings/412696. As an ex- Orlando police chief she's making law and order a central theme -- popular in Florida, but it should also double function to fight the branding of Democrats as radical "defund" types that cost us so dreadfully in 2020.
