(17,559 posts)I think that it is clear that Putin wanted to control Ukraine in order to make more money off of Russian oil exports. He may also have dreams of restoring the "great" Soviet Empire. What that has to do with Trump stealing top secret documents I don't have a clue.
I think that Trump wanted the documents to use to bluff his way out of ending his life in prison. "If you arrest me, things will happen automatically that will badly damage the country." ("Not to mention that I will sick my redneck army on you."
The two issues may be related, but I sort of doubt it.

And by tracing the reaction of certain foreign officials, understand what was being shipped where.
I'm not saying they did, but that's what I would do to find the mole, its tunnels, and exploit it. Putin has not fared well with his advanced intel.
So the short answer is yes. We couldn't stop him, but we could make his war a disaster for Russia.
