11. I see it slightly differently.....

I take the tack that it is absolutely fine to attack a position taken, or words used, without directly attacking the speaker.

For example, I took extreme opposition to the squads slogan of defund the police. i would argue we want to reform police tactics, training, policies and procedures, as well as prosecute bad cops. The phrase was a stupid club they handed directly to the gop. It was immature, unpolished, and amateurish.

But I didn't bash the dems behind it directly.

Remember, our enemies are here in sheep's clothing, and would love to sow division and chaos. We shouldn't let them.

However, the fear of broadbrush rules; the self silencing/self censoring factors, have been and are an issue here.

The costs occur at a number of levels. Useful information, the importance of debate, etc.

Imagine a Republican forum; in which republicans could not 'bash' trump, trump allies, etc., republicon 'speakers' censored for attacks/criticism of republicans, behind those trumpers?

Democrats are a normal political party, and like all normal political parties, there are politicians in our fold who are slightly corrupt or have other ethical failings.

Can’t think of a single Democratic representative (at least with a national profile) who’s flat-out crazy, though, for example, praising Stalin as a role model the way GOP representatives have praised Hitler, or declaring modern science or Enlightenment thinking a colossal conspiracy or hoax.
