Even though not all Democrats support it, it seems critical to the midterm elections that voters who have benefited from student loan forgiveness, need to be aware of the role the Democratic Party had in making this happen.
There is ample evidence that many voters are not aware of what the Democratic Party has done to help them. Is anything being done to remedy this situation?

(58,704 posts)as will all the other accomplishments of the past two years.
The question of the election is: Do you want these successes to continue, or do you want the repubs to start tearing them down?

(3,697 posts)I was surprised by the snarkiness in his comment about Dems needing to learn how to win in Red states and not just on Twitter. Doesn't he know Blue Collar families and students are also saddled with student debt. That students who went to trade school also have debts that will be reduced or eliminated?
Ryan, following last week's announcement of student loan debt relief, said the plan "sends the wrong message," benefitting those who are "already on a trajectory to financial security."
I don't expect to be a fan of Ryan in the Senate. He's no Sherrod Brown for sure.

(4,846 posts)The opposition of student debt forgiveness is pretty bad. Maybe I am in the oldest millennials group so we are the ones that paid off our student debt and yet don't have children old enough in college yet. It hasn't been well received in my friend group circle (democrats, independent, republicans, and non-political).
I think Ryan knows about his demographics in Ohio much better than you and I.

(68,660 posts)I know him personally and I can tell you he is a great guy and will support Democrats. In general, there are those in Ohio who do not support loan forgiveness. Ryan is hoping for cross-over votes in this one. I think he is mistaken and emailed him in fact. Ryan is a vote for getting rid of the filibuster.

(6,229 posts)I wondered about Ryan taking this position. What are they seeing in polling? Do they know who is undecided and who isn't? My sense is that student loan forgiveness isn't going to sway someone who is undecided unless they or someone close to them is benefiting from it. In which case, they would vote Democratic. I'm thinking that Ryan is shooting in the dark here. He would have been better served to say nothing at all rather than taking the route he did.
