Hey all! Thanks in advance for donating, kicking and rec-ing. DU is the best!

Hey all! Once again, I must thank you all in advance for putting up with people like me who are sometimes in need of assistance. Please forgive me, but I fear I must break down and ask for help. I am grateful that there’s a platform where people can give or not without pressure. It cuts down on the feelings of worthlessness.

In full disclosure, I am not unemployed, disabled, or without necessities. I am, however, struggling while in the process of paying off huge medical bills, and I am certain some will say “Join the club!” So here I am.
In the midst of all those trials, I am trying to move from an untenable landlord relationship. In my apartment complex, I have been solicited for sex, no less than 3 murders have occurred in the past year, and a guy tried to sell me smack at my doorstep until he realized he had the wrong apartment. It doesn’t help that the apartment is almost an hour away from my work, and that it’s a one bedroom roach-infested crapbox that costs $1000 a month, and to top it all off, I don’t even own the car I drive. With gas the way it is, I am falling deeper into a hole.

Cue the tiny violin.

However, there was a little ray of light, so I had to bolt when the opportunity came, believe it or not, to rent a small cottage from my employer that would allow me to walk to work. These homes are few and far between and there’s always a waiting list. My sad tale must have moved the committee because I qualified ands got the house!
Now, of course, the old apartment complex wants their pound of flesh. They’re willing to let me pay over time, but I was threatened with financial devastation if I didn’t comply. You could argue that it was my choice to leave, but one must understand how egregious the situation had become.

I so desperately need to get out from under the thumb of greedy people and they don’t make it easy, so I am now humbly asking for any kind of relief I can find. If you can donate anything, it would be greatly appreciated, but If all you feel comfortable with is a kick and a rec, I would welcome that too.

Thanks so much to all!

*And thanks to DU for letting me put this in GD.

I apologize if this is super obvious advice about things you've already done, but have you called any hotlines or advice lines for help?

You're entitled to safety and if you don't get it, you might be able to simply sacrifice your last month's rent and break the lease. Maybe there are hotlines or legal aid services that can help you out.

And there are people (I am not one of them) who know a lot about getting your bills reduced if you're on a limited income; you've probably already looked into this but it sounds like there are lots of ways to get the bills knocked down.

Been there, done that. Wish I were able to offer some cash, I do hope you get what you you need to end the nightmare and move on.

I hate cities.
