Chief Justice John Roberts
Well, I sure as FUCK don't want christo-fascists telling me what the law is.
More context than original post.
When asked to reflect on the last year at the court in his first public appearance since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Roberts said Friday he was concerned that lately some critics of the courts controversial decisions have questioned the legitimacy of the court, which he said was a mistake. He did not mention any specific cases or critics by name.
If the court doesnt retain its legitimate function of interpreting the constitution, Im not sure who would take up that mantle. You dont want the political branches telling you what the law is, and you dont want public opinion to be the guide about what the appropriate decision is, Roberts said while being interviewed by two judges from the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at its conference in Colorado Springs.
So STFU, assswipe.

(32,082 posts)What Roberts said is very standard. The political branches do not tell the judicial branch what the law is.

(6,044 posts)Roberts is treating these recent decisions as no big deal. As if he thinks they are not the earthquakes they are.
Yesterday I was a free human being, a full citizen. Today I am less. To Roberts it is like a ball game. You win some, you lose some. No big deal. He does not comprehend the meaning of his decisions.
We need to win the House as well as the Senate and we need to enlarge the court. We cant leave our fate in the hands of people with such shallow intellect and feelings.

(73,623 posts)with others here that the USSC is political, I think it essential to recognize that they are basing positions on their religion, as well. The synergy of the two is most dangerous.
Recommended, before I forget to mention that.
Whenever a group of people self-identifies as "God's choosen people" in an aggressive and threatening way, it doesn't go well. There are too many examples of the destruction and suffering to go into many examples. But I can sum it up best, perhaps, by comparing the "christian nationalist" movement to the flock of David Koresh.

(73,623 posts)been on my mind quite a bit lately. We saw it lifting its head years ago. It is the combination of the USSC, the religious self-righteous, and the milita-minded's synergy that is resulting in the gathering force.

He seems to think its still 2006, and he was brought in as a bulwark against some perceived leftward drift. He doesnt seem to grasp that he is dealing with five right wing extremist colleagues with an open, unashamed, activist right-wing agenda, not intent on protecting the Constitution, but perverting it to conform to a specific political agenda. I am truly amazed that Roberts would even entertain the notion that the nation hasnt noticed.

(54,445 posts)Now, he sees himself in the papers being described as a moderate swing vote, and must be saying, "HUH????"
Unfortunately, I don't yet think that it frightens him. I hope it does before it's too late.

(73,623 posts)I suspect that he is aware that he is losing his leadership role on the court to Clarence. His whimpering may be, in part, an attempt to regain his former position of influence.
