If Ukraine isn't doing this, they should start:

Airdrop leaflets over Russian positions, offering food, shelter, and good treatment to all Russians who surrender. It’s an age-old tactic, and a lot of Russians have already surrendered and received food, tea, and a phone call to their mothers.

Now that Putin is closing the borders to military-age men, Ukraine should step up their outreach efforts.

When they could be justifiably ripping the heads off surrendering Russians, they feed them, give them warm clothing, and let them call their worried mothers.

It is kindness and compassion, as much as courage and feats of arms, that win wars.

Even in the face of Russian atrocities. If the Ukrainians vow revenge, the Russians will fight to the death.

Also, if you haven’t seen it, look up the cards they’re giving out all over , in Russian and Ukrainian. The Russian side explains how to surrender to any civilian. The Ukrainian side explains to said civilian what to do with their new Russian POW.
