General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust like I predicted, the Oath Keepers trial would show evidence of a conspiracy between
The Oath Keepers and Trumps inner circle.
Prosecutors presented Signal text messages from Rhodes to Oath Keepers and the chat group Friends of Stone. A chat group headed by Roger Stone. Other members of Stones chat group include Ali Alexander, Stop the Steal organizer, and the leader of the Proud Boys, Henry Tarrio.
Another member of the Oath Keepers, Kelly SoRelle was a volunteer for Lawyers for Trump. The DOJ has charged SoRelle with 4 counts in connection with the coup. Sorelle was videotaped with Rhodes outside the capital on J6. There are also text messages from SoRelle to Trump aides prior to J6. One of the texts was to Andrew Giuliani.
This trail is setting the stage for future conspiracy trials of Trumps inner circle and Trump himself.
Like I said before, you do not want your name mentioned at the Oath Keepers trial.

(21,323 posts)When Mark Meadows goes before a grand jury wake me up. Roger Stone will never flip on Trump, but sending his ass to jail is a start.
Time is what matters to Trump. A Trump trial would never begin until 2024, 2025?
We had better concentrate on keeping the House and adding to the Senate, that should be our goal because if we lose the House the Magats will control the purse strings and believe me they will shut down the government just to stop the investigations into Trump.
Vote, like our democracy depends on it.
Go Letitia.

(21,323 posts)Holding some top traitors accountable will drive up Democratic enthusiasm. I don't believe in polls but I did see a poll that claims that Magat enthusiasm to vote is 2 points higher than democratic enthusiasm. As I said I don't believe in polls so I take that with a grain of salt. Yes, holding anyone accountable from Trump's inner circle will drive up our enthusiasm.

(21,323 posts)I know that the insurrection has grown since the 1/6 attack on our Capitol.
I know that a lot of people do not realize how serious the situation is that we are in.
I know that the 2022 election may be the determining factor in whether we keep our democratic Constitutional republic.
People who believe that everything is going according to plan to save our democracy, scare me to death. A former president stole top secret documents and kept them for 18 months and still to this day has not returned all of them. I surmise this, if Trump had returned all of the stolen documents when he was asked to return them, none of us would know anything about what he did, unless some reporter broke the news.

(21,323 posts)Mark Meadows gave DOJ the exact same information he gave the J6 committee.
Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has complied with a subpoena from the Justice Departments investigation into events surrounding January 6, 2021, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN, making him the highest-ranking Trump official known to have responded to a subpoena in the federal investigation.
Meadows turned over the same materials he provided to the House select committee investigating the US Capitol attack, one source said, meeting the obligations of the Justice Department subpoena, which has not been previously reported.
Wake me up when Meadows is called before a federal grand jury to provide new information. There, I fixed it.

Here is what I think about; Trump's strategy is to be patient, to delay everything until his Magat traitors get back into power. I am being told the same thing, be patient, everything may be going according to plan.
I know this, we are in a far worse place right now today than we were in on 1/6 2021, the insurrection has grown, beginning with DOJ doing absolutely nothing to the Cyber Ninjas, look at Arizona now.

(6,820 posts)Holding Trump accountable is a legislative issue, not an executive one. If you want DOJ to accelerate the process, new laws need to be passed. Theoretically, this is possible, but only if dems hold the House AND the Senate. A tall order. We, the voters are the only ones who can do anything about it and are ultimately responsible for the consequences. In the mean time, blaming DOJ for "sitting on their hands" is nothing more than a deflection.
The black female AGs need to save us. Black women have been saving democracy. We owe a debt to them bigly.

(2,030 posts)Would it pass? Nope. But it would be another way to showcase ahead of the midterms how corrupt the GOP is.
Democratic candidates could run ads showing Traitor Trump promising to pardon the Jan. 6 rioters (and have a montage of all the corrupt pardons he made, such as Bannon, Stone, and Flynn) and how the Democratic candidates' Republican opponents voted against limiting the power to pardon and thereby allowing Traitor Trump and future corrupt presidents to keep abusing the pardon power.
Also, the Brennan Center for Justice has an article on things Congress could do legislatively to limit the pardon. Excerpt:
There is strong reason to believe this legislation would withstand constitutional challenges. With respect to the bribery provisions, it is widely accepted that Congress may impose criminal penalties on a presidential pardon issued to bribe a recipient. Moreover, DOJ has issued two opinions consistent with this understanding. The more recent one, from 1995, concluded that applying the federal bribery statute to the president raises no separation of powers question, let alone a serious one.

(81,238 posts)I couldnt help wondering if gals like her thought the insurrection might be a good way to meet guys. After all, the ratio was certainly there for - um - success in that venture, shallow as that might sound.
Reminded me of my college radio days. I couldnt help noticing how easy the pickings were if Id just been looking for dates. There were always 40 or 50 guys at those staff meetings, and only three or four of us girls. Similar lopsided staffing at most of the stations I worked at, because so few women were part of the staff back then. But I was always much more attracted to the idea of getting on the air.

(11,302 posts)of the investigations plays out. 'The threads that bind.' Tying these characters together - and establishing the manner and details in which they cooperated - is the essential part of laying out the actual crimes that were committed.
It isn't simple, it isn't a slam dunk - and it isn't "something that should have been done months ago."

(4,913 posts)If the DOJ gets convictions in this trial it will prove there was a conspiracy. Anyone connected to the conspiracy would be in legal jeopardy. If they don't get convictions in this trial that could be problematic for future convictions.

(21,323 posts)I assume that they are cooperating with DOJ. Yes, getting a conviction in a trial is another step above that.
