Uranus is getting mooned tonight

Watch the moon pass in front of Uranus early Wednesday (Oct. 12)

The lunar occultation of Uranus will be visible from Canada, the western U.S., and northwestern Mexico.

We saw it right next to the full moon a night or two ago and wondered what planet that was. She just made a very juvenile butt joke...

"I'm sorry, Fry, but scientists renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all."
"Oh. What do they call it now?"
"U rectum".

...Uranus only makes a really close approach around 2:00 AM, without going behind the moon.

Not pouring but solid cloud cover.
So, no drive out into the country for me.
I'd like to go out with the binoculars, but no soap.

He asked me what that bright star was in the sky. I said that was Uranus. Seemed like an odd reply.

in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Darkest skies I’ve see since mid-Pacific. I looked for northern lights, even got up around 2AM, but didn’t see anything.

From my location it would be a 'grazing' occultation - the planet will be skimming across the lower left lunar limb from 12:35am till about 1:15am.

Grazers are a lot of fun to watch, but all I can see tonight are cloud butts.

There was something near the moon the other night, but I think it was jupiter.

According to Stellarium it's behind the moon right now, so I can't tell anyway

Last night at one time I could see the moon plus 1 planet trailing and 3 leading. Uranus must've been the one trailing. I know the brightest one was Jupiter and fairly sure the next one was Mars, but the one nearest the western horizon has me stumped.
