The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia is gaining followers in the U.S. — not Russian immigrants, but American converts drawn to its emphasis on "traditional values."

The mystical connection between white Southern nostalgia, the global family values movement, and Russia.

Last weekend a far-right group called America First held a political rally in Orlando. At one point, organizer Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist also involved in the 2017 Charlottesville rally, invited attendees to cheer for Russia. Soon the audience was chanting “Putin! Putin!”

Without context this may seem puzzling. Why would a group of ultra-nationalist Americans celebrate the invasion of a U.S. ally by someone both the left and right have largely understood to be an enemy of freedom?

White racist fantasies portray Russia as an ethnically pure land of traditional religion and gender roles.
In fact, though, the U.S. right wing has long cultivated ties with Russia. Some of these are self-evident quid-pro-quo affairs: The “sweeping and systematic” campaigns of election interference authorized by Putin in support of a Trump victory in 2016 and 2020; Trump’s attempt to leverage Congressionally allocated aid to Ukraine for political dirt on the Biden family; the confessed Russian agent who infiltrated the National Rifle Association and the National Prayer Breakfast in a bid to develop informal channels of influence on the Republican Party.

More broadly, however, U.S. conservative evangelicals have developed strong symbolic and institutional ties with the Russian Orthodox Church. In recent years, these have dovetailed with white racist fantasies of Russia as an ethnically pure land of traditional religion and gender roles, symbolized by the bare-chested kleptocrat on horseback, Vladimir Putin.

In the following vignettes, I explore how these connections came to exist, and what they reveal about the transnational currents of U.S. conservatism and white nationalism.

But man alive, did she take Rubio to church yesterday. Val reminded me of my late Mom, who looked people eye to eye and face to face. My late Dad was Native American (Creek), and he knew not get in her cross hairs, which he did very rarely

You notice, that Rubio could barely even LOOK at Val face to face that whole hour, and he was FAKE writing notes everytime she turned to her right to look @ him. He did ANYTHING to not Have to make eye-contact at that beautiful black woman. Val stared his butt down, and kept ON staring him down.

Rubio's a horrible Senator. He barely works or shows up to vote when Senators are required to vote, he puts up all kinds of bible quotes on his twitter feed and what is that doing exactly? He does nothing for his constituents, and some like it. I also don't see HOW 46% or so though that HE won the debate, because he didn't say shit, had NO answers and when she challenged him on guns, he could never come back at al with any substantive answers as to why he loves seeing people's heads blown off at the whim of these mass-murderers. Unfortunately, racism and the color of Val's skin, and many of these folks still belonging to the cult of tRump make people see things that aren't there in Rubio.

Off-topic, Walker's still going around with that fake badge saying he worked as a policeman. The man is sinking into mental illness more and more and in real time, and right in front of the WORLD, and the GQP US Taliban Party is fine with that. I don't ever want to hear one GQP'er speak about morality again, because they are mostly the party of immorality. Dems have to remember that and speak ON it, if they don't do anything else. CALL them out on their hypocrisy, LIES and FAKE CHRISTIANITY.

14. I know several retired military guys down living/retired in Arizona ....

And they are NONE too happy with Katie Hobbs.

One guy told me that since she's running and hiding from that whack job, and that Hobbs seems scared to debate her. They have even wen so far he told me as to send people around dressed up in chicken outfits carrying signs and calling Hobbs a chicken, and she's doing herself NO favors by running from "go jump in a Lake."

I remember seeing Hobbs on one of Lawrence's shows and her timid and shyness, and I remembered thinking to myself, she's so timid and shy. How did she stand up to those buffoons election deniers, and that was BEFORE she decided to run for governor. Hobbs is blowing it big time IMO, and going door to door and "Smiling at people" as my friend puts it isn't helping her much, and especially not with the military vets I know who live in Scottsdale, Flagstaff and Kingman Arizona who are NOT liberals by any means. They are so sick of tRump and GQP Shenanigans and treasonous actions that all 10 I know have already got & mailed their ballots back in and have voted straight blue. One buddy's getting his grandson to take him to vote in person on election day at his county election's office, and of course he'll be decked out in his military VFW gear.
