House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is signaling that if Republicans win the House majority in next months midterm elections, the GOP is likely to oppose more aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Since the invasion in February the majority of congressional Republicans and Democrats have united in authorizing billions of dollars in U.S. military and humanitarian assistance to Kyiv as a geopolitical and moral stand against Vladimir Putins aggression.
McCarthy, who could be House speaker if Republicans triumph, indicated that that could end in a GOP-led House.
I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and theyre not going to write a blank check to Ukraine, he recently told Punchbowl News. They just wont do it.

The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform wont call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.
Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trumps campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.
Still, Republican delegates at last weeks national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.

(123 posts)is a stupid man that's why he says stupid things. Easily lead or mislead. Certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed. ...And he is a tool!
Why would he stop aid to Ukraine....because he is stupid.
Putin will come for them too.
Greedy for power at all costs. I hope this guy gets voted out of office.
