EU to Sanction Iran Drone Maker, Three Generals on Russia Sales
(Bloomberg) -- The European Union is set to propose sanctioning three Iranian individuals and one entity for providing military support to Russia for its war against Ukraine and their involvement in providing Moscow with drones, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The entity, Shahed Aviation Industries, is responsible for the design and development of the Shahed series of Iranian drones that have been supplied to Russia and are currently being used in Ukraine, the person said.
The individuals are three senior generals, all with high-level supervisory positions and direct involvement in Irans UAV program and its cooperation with Russia.
The EU is aiming to approve the sanctions Wednesday and formally adopt them by Thursday, several officials said. The proposals could still change before they are discussed and adopted by member states. EU sanctions need the backing of all member states.
