Have you heard about the GOP plan to either gut the social safety net or destroy the economy?

https://www.mediamatters.org/bloomberg/have-you-heard-about-gop-plan-either-gut-social-safety-net-or-destroy-economy

Perhaps the single most consequential story of the midterms season broke this week, and there’s been virtually no coverage from major TV news shows, newspapers, and other mainstream outlets.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg Government produced a bombshell report that points to the massive economic consequences a Republican House would bring for Americans.

If Republicans gain a majority following next month’s elections, the outlet reported, they plan to use a future increase or suspension of the debt ceiling as leverage to force through “top priorities” like seismic cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and other social safety net spending. Failure to act on the debt ceiling would result in an economic catastrophe, experts say.

There has been shockingly little coverage of this development given its significance. It earned a scattering of mentions in publications including New York magazine. And Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes detailed the stakes on his show Wednesday night.

After all what they are proposing is literally going to kill millions of Americans who will be homeless and lose medical care and die as the result of the Republicans getting their way like they seem hellbent on trying to achieve and that will also cause an economic ripple effect economic that will devastate the econcomy as it will take billions upon billions out of it.

Been saying it for years - call their bluff! You cannot negotiate with them. Make them own the economic disaster that will follow. Give them what Mencken wanted for them.

Biden: “Democrats - concede nothing. Give them the back of your hand. Republicans - if you don’t lift the debt ceiling, what follows is all on you. It’s all yours. I’m going to ride my bike…”

to pay attention to the inner workings of government and make informed decisions. Instead, there's an abundance of evidence that they will fall for the same deflections and fear-based propaganda, then blame their ills on the wrong folks.

It's not saying that no one, anywhere, has ever mentioned the matter.

The OP and linked article cite Bloomberg Government as an example of an outlet that has reported the story. The linked article goes on to say:

But the story hasn’t been referenced elsewhere this week on MSNBC, or on CNN, or on Fox News. The nationally broadcast morning and evening news shows on ABC, CBS, and NBC haven’t discussed it. It hasn’t been mentioned in the pages of major newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today.

Those who rely on the listed examples for their news will not have heard of this matter. I'd venture to say that's most Americans - or at least most Americans who are even interested in news at all.

I see the story about Republican plans to cut social security at MSNBC, WP, NYT. NPR, Yahoo News, HuffPo, PBS, CBS News, NBC News, etc..

Here's a link to the CBS News story:

And it also looks as though, while Media Matters' list of specific newspapers and programs that haven't featured the story may be technically correct, many of those same news organizations are running the story online.

That, for me, creates the hope that we may soon see the story touched upon in nightly network news broadcasts and Sunday-morning talk shows as well. Which would be good. Voters need such information to make informed choices.

But we both agree that the story has legs and is getting pretty good coverage now.

It may be more accurate to say the article in the OP is no longer up to date with what's happening now.

Hold the nation hostage by not raising the debt ceiling in return for massive spending cuts.

Also, not mentioned, McCarthy said, on national TV, that he is going to impose the exact same economic plan that Britain imposed, trickle down economics, more tax cuts for the rich and more deregulation.

They want to create chaos before the 2024 election and blame President Biden. As far as the Senate goes in 2024, many more vulnerable Democrats are up for reelection.

but, in the commercials for the free Pluto streaming, we're getting a LOT of political commercials that mention the GOP plan to eliminate SSI. The NH Senate race (Bolduc trying to unseat Hassen) and a NH House race involving Pappas are generating a lot of add buys.
