Remember when you were young? I do. Remember the one night stands?
If abortion is banned the one night stand will begin to disappear. It will be much harder for young single men to get laid. Young women will become much more protective.
When it comes to sex the Republicans want to bring us back to 1950's. They also want to ban the pill. They want to end the sexual revolution which began in the 60's.
If young people are paying attention they should vote in big numbers this election.

(50,562 posts)Before Griswold, condoms were the only birth control that was allowed to be sold
but their baby-preventing capabilities could not be discussed on the packaging. They could only be sold for disease prevention.
The Germans, on the other hand, dont have that problem: when I was stationed in Berlin, the top-selling prophylactic in West Germany was branded Anti-Baby Condom. After AIDS hit the scene the company decided to cash in on the large gay market and stocked the condom machines with one slot of Anti-Baby Condom and another slot of Anti-AIDS Condom. (I am not sure whether its a law or just really good effort on the part of the manufacturer, but every bar in Berlin has a condom vending machine in every restroom
and people buy tons of them.)

(33,643 posts)I think if everyone was to answer the question honestly, we'd find most men's first sexual contact happened as boys, with other boys, before the age at which 'sex with girls' became a real option. Talking 10-13 years of age. Even dudes who grow up to be straight this happens. It's very, very common. Not saying, like, butt sex, but playing with each other and oral, that kind of thing.
So while it's not 'preferred' (if you're straight) it's something most males have done in their lives, so it's not that foreign a concept.
Take away all other options, it'll become appealing again to many of them.
The average person's sexual preference is not nearly as static as many make it out to be.

But without protection, it is very risky. And once birth control is restricted, STD shaming will be the next target. There will be public health lists posted publicly detailing who tests positive for what.
Count on it.

LaMouffette
(2,039 posts)If females are banned from having abortions, the males who impregnated them should have to pay $300,000 for the child's upbringing. The full amount, not just half, since the woman is prevented from ending the pregnancy.
I agree with your view that males should give DNA samples, too, if females' menses are monitored.
And how about banning Viagra if contraception is banned, too!

That church spent more then 4 million dollars in Kansas in an attempt to codify their religious belief (which can be found nowhere in the Bible) while maintaining their tax exempt status. Was the vote result a wake up call for zealots? No.
Since Churches dont give a damn about the separation of church and state lets do away with it and turn loose the assessors.

At some point it is going to happen. Before women could just take care of it privately. But these slimy men are the ones that turned it public - they'll get their comeuppance.

(4,913 posts)Banning abortion, banning the pill, would completely change our culture for the worse. It would destroy countless lives in many different ways. Women will die, teenagers forced to have a baby. Teenagers forced to get married with very little chance of it lasting.
Teenagers, women, would turn to the black market to get an abortion. I hope young people are paying attention. I know women are.

(10,212 posts)This idea that a clump of cells is a human baby is strictly Christian. No other religion in the US, besides most all Christian religions, are pushing this idea.
You know why? Aside from Christians having serious problems about sex, they think the clump of cells has a soul. You know that is behind their most stupid idea that abortion is murder. It's all about the imaginary soul they think the clump has.
There's no evidence of any soul especially in a clump of cells. But they believe in a super sky daddy without evidence so this is no surprise. Superstition is so easily manipulated.
It's all made up to control the masses. What with all their feudal wealth, the filthy rich oligarchs need some people to subjugate and turn into serfs. And superstitions are just the ticket for abusive control.

(14,589 posts)I can remember getting ready to go on a big date with this girl, G.
My mother came into my room (she never knocked and was DEFINITELY inconvenient - at least I thought so at the time).
She looked me up and down, and said, "Now, don't get anybody PREGNANT!"
She went on to tell me that if I did get someone pregnant I would be responsible for getting a full-time job and helping to raise the baby. She said I would probably have to quit school, and grow up real fast.
You know how teens do. I gave her a scandalized look and said, "Mom!!! I won't!"
And you know what? I never did. Not until I was married (to a different woman) and we actually wanted a child. And...there WAS a harem suit involved

Having been one(!), and seen the behavior of my peers, there is no doubt in my mind that this is true for most young men.
getagrip_already
(14,838 posts)It isn't abortion - that is just a first step.
The religious fascists want to end all sex outside of marriage (except that which they themselves enjoy). To do this, they are following a playbook:
- Stop all abortions, which will force unwanted penalties on sinners
- Jail anyone involved in abortion, distributing contraceptives, or violating public "norms" such as being openly gay
- Stop Birth control, which will also stop STD protective measures and result in yet more reasons not to engage in sex
- Publicly shame and jail anyone found to have an STD - their theory is this will keep people from engaging in sex
- Jail anyone found distributing abortion drugs, contraceptives, or treating (other) people confidentially for STD's
- Arrest people for consensual non-marital sex or cohabitation
And we know much of this has already been law. So it isn't really a far stretch.

(3,164 posts)As much as I favor abortion on demand and think *NO ONE* but the mother (and her doctor) should have any say, it's damned well the guy's responsibility as much, or more. Zero empathy for any idiot who doesn't take responsibility for his part, he can damned well pay child support the rest of his life if he's too lazy and/or stupid to use protection.
I 'came' of age in the late 70's and early 80's, just as AIDS was really ravaging not just the gay community but had started to kill 'straights'; a condom was, to anyone not too stupid to be Darwinbait, a no brainer.

(578 posts)this as a guy who is pro choice. Im 39 and single so Im not young but gave dates younger women and trust me even after this horrible reversal of roe v Wade they are still willing to have unprotected sex. I always use condoms for protection in general since I dont want kids. Young people are always reckless when it comes to having and wanting sex. I know plenty of guys who ended up with kids by not using protection. One night stands are not going anywhere.
A better argument for young men would have been to tell them if they knock up a girl that abortion is no longer an option.
