Which spent more then four million tax exempt dollars to do away with abortion in Kansas. That church has no respect for separation of church and state except the part about the state staying out of the church’s business. Akin to conservatives totally ignoring the first half of the second amendment. I say turn the assessors loose on the Church of Rome. Are ya listening Pope Frank. Reign in your fucking bishops in this country. And take care of your rampant sex abuse problem.

Disclosure, I am a resident of Kansas and was born and raised Catholic, served as an altar boy but the intense “grooming” the church is so good at didn’t stick with me. I could ramble on about the money grubbing papists but I’ll spare you. There is so much to ramble about these days.

It sick and sad, that anyone can walk back into the place.

These are organizations owning and investing into property, they should be taxed.

I find there terrible preachers and some that really try. Authoritarian, judgmental ones are at one end and there the ones that just try to help others. Hate to make everything black and white when it’s all mostly gray.
When hear someone say they are Christians, I step back. Don’t tell me, show me.

the collection basket and drop us off for church. We were kids but looked older... drinking age in NY was 18. Murphys opened up at 10 a.m. and beer was 10C a glass.

Guess where Jesus's money went?

If he wants it, he can ask and I'll give him his damn dime.

And thanks, Uncle Ben.

'Turn to God' by sending seed money to them.

Have you ever noticed that the collectors of prosperity gospel seem to do much better than the donors/investors who give?

Says the have a direct line to God.

Tells you God's favor can be bought with money.

Tells you only your religion is real, others are a sham, and it's ok to wage war and kill those of a different religion.

But yeah, if you need to spend money as an effort to appease your God - give it to a homeless person or a not-for-profit charity, or a dog shelter, after all your God is all seeing.

Your money going to fuel up a scam artist's private jet will make God frown, angels weep and lose their wings, not to mention kittens having a really bad time.

Since inception, organized religion has been entirely about amassing wealth
for the purpose of amassing political power
for the purpose of amassing further wealth.

It has literally no other goal, and the tragedy is that people have been gleefully falling for it for millennia.

Sunday mornings I like to watch George Stephanopoulos, then switch over to Fareed. Joel comes on right after George, and if I don't change the channel quick enough I catch his opening, which is "I like to start with something funny, I heard about". Corny in the extreme, yes, but often somewhat funny.

but we would snag the envelopes from her mailbox and buy her groceries with the money. She was poor (Social Security only) and couldn't afford to send them a dime.

And, before anyone worries about us removing items from her mailbox, this was on a rural route and her mail carrier was an old family friend who *knew* what we were doing.
