I would have thought that, because of the obvious threats to her, that they would have security cameras and break in alerts in their home. Maybe they did and they just were not armed.
I know I had gotten very lackadaisical before we were broken into this year, but since, I have taken every precaution that I can afford.

(21,110 posts)We had an intruder earlier this year. Our sweet doggo was the only reason he was chased from our home.
I changed my idiotic ways after that...it was scary.

(3,551 posts)Attack At Pelosi Home Caught By Unattended Capitol Police Cameras ...
TodayNick Visser Nov 1, 2022, 10:52 PM EDT Security cameras installed at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home in San Francisco captured the break-in before her husband was attacked by a man with a hammer last week, but U.S. Capitol Police officers weren't actively monitoring them at the time, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

(26,343 posts)But absent that protection, why wouldnt someone like the Pelosis not have their own security?
Its kind of a rhetorical question - because lots of $100 millionaires walk and drive around without bodyguards. If I was that loaded I would have a driver and 24 hour security.
I dont get it.

(5,164 posts)We were broken into twice over many years. Once while away on vacation, it was likely teens. Once targeted by a bad actor for a reason. My mother and brother woke up and heard them, I slept through it.

(5,164 posts)But I would think Nancy being a target then would be enough. It certainly wouldve been enough for me.

First thing I thought about because I recently saw "The Watcher" series on Netflix wherein a family buys a house and receives threatening letters and puts in a security system and cameras, so it was on my mind.

. A panic button.
I have in my home not just cameras and motion sensors, but where we have lots of French glass doors there are sensors for the sound of breaking glass - yes - there is apparently a distinct pitch and sound that can be detected.
We also have in several places - by the bed and even in a bathroom - where you can press a panic button that will call 911.
That the Speaker of the House didnt have this is the biggest surprise of all.
Hope this changes for all members of Congress, Judges and their families especially with the given threats.

(44,974 posts)But security systems need to be "armed" in order for an alarm to sound.

(5,803 posts)I don't know if there is a sound system or if alarms go off, but the cameras were live.
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3716288-capitol-police-werent-monitoring-cameras-at-pelosis-home-as-they-captured-break-in/
Capitol Police said its policy is to only monitor the residences cameras some of 1,800 the agency has access to around the clock when the Speaker is there.
While the Speaker was with her security detail in Washington, D.C., the San Francisco cameras were not actively monitored as they are when the Speaker is at the residence, the agency said. The Command Center personnel noticed the police activity on the screen and used the feeds to monitor the response and assist investigators.
But the Capitol Police announced on Wednesday that they had begun an internal security review following the attack, which became the latest incident to raise fresh questions about lawmaker security.

I cant imagine what Id do if I saw someone on my porch, but I do have a fence around my house, so theyd have to come through a gate first.
Its amazing to me that she didnt have better precautions.
